Advantages: One the best Gassman performs Disadvantages: none
...'Scent of a woman' is an Italian film released in 1974 from Dino Risi, one of the most interesting Italian directors.
The film is performed by a wonderful Vittorio Gassman, a glamororous Agostina Belli, and a young actor, Alessandro Momo, who unfortunately died in a car accident a little time after the release of this film.
The film is the story of the captain Fausto Consolo (Vittorio Gassman), who became blind after an accident.
The captain want to arrive in Napoli to commit suicide.
He is a really desperate man, that can't accept to survive as a blind, but he tries to hide his problems behind a 'mask', and he poses like a cynical philanderer who accept no mercy. (The title 'Scent of a woman' is due to the fact that the captain claims he should recignize all the women from their personal scent).
A young soldier (Momo) must...

Advantages: British Made Drama, same writer as Doctor Who and Queer As Folk Disadvantages: doubtable on historical content
...courts including the Court of Naples (amidst an erupting Vesuvius)
David Tennet brings some good eye candy as well as being undoubtably perfect for the role of young cassanova, with his cheeky smile and wayward manner.
Peter O Toole, may be old and perhaps frail especially in the last episode, but he does show that you can't judge a book by its cover (which is funny as Cassanova ends up as a librarian in his dying years)
This DVD is brilliant if you fancy a quiet night in but still experience all the thrills as going on the pull, but all those of an emotionally sensitive nature please have the hankies ready for the last scene in the last episode.
The DVD offers little for the series, one feature called the "Gallery" which is a small (and I mean small compared to what could have been possible with the exsqisite selection of scenes presented...

Advantages: Funny, great performances, parodic material of The Maltese Falcon et al Disadvantages: The humour occasionally falls a bit flat
...Just Ask For Diamond is an affectionate spoof of old detective film noir, particularly the Maltese Falcon. It is (finally!) proof that among the dross that inhabits the 99p DVDs, there are some gems (groan…sorry, couldn't stop myself from using that awful pun…).
Tim Diamond (Spades were already taken, and Tim Club or Tim Heart would have sounded silly) is a (very) failed former copper (policeman for those uninitiated in the wonderful world of English slang), who has gone on to set up his own Private Investigator business. He's utterly gormless and when he watches Philip Marlow detective movies, he has to have almost every plot twist explained to him by his smarter, much younger brother Nick. Trouble with the business is, there's not much call for PI work in Camden… until, that is, a South American dwarf named Jonnie Naples walks...
