The special edition box set, is well presented and stylish, and has many more features hence the the 3rd disc, including a making of feature, music scores to the film and a gallery of photo stills from the film.
It portrays a lieutenant (Kevin Costner) caught up in the American civil war, who is tired of fighting and wants to see the American frontier before its gone.
He dices with death taunting the enemy grey coats to shoot him to end his anguish and pain, but this is seen by his generals as an act of courage and he is given an assignment of his choosing.
Of course, he ends up in a remote fort on the frontier and meets the local Native American Sioux tribe who are his only neighbours.
There are several funny moments when he tries to communicate with the Sioux, who he befriends, and falls in love with a white woman raised by the tribe.
He learns a lot about the Sioux and the hardships they face in their everyday struggle for survival.
He eventually lives the Native American way of life with these people, hunting Buffalo, fighting enemy tribes and also his own union soldiers.
Its a breath taking film that deserved the seven Oscar nominations, it is without a doubt Kevin Costner's best film, directed by him and using real Native American Indian actors, made the film take you back when the Native American's were free to roam their land before it was cruelly taken from them.
May be I'm just soft, but I don't mind saying that I shed a tear with the scenes regarding the Wolf two socks, I won't say more than that, you'll have to rent or buy the film.
This is an awesome film of the highest calibre, and rates as my favourite film ever but I may be biased as I like the Native American Culture anyway.
Judge for yourselves, get the popcorn and the drinks out and settle down for the ride.

Well you really didn't tell me anything I already knew and I would really have liked some more information on this DVD set which you were supposed to be reviewing anyway instead of writing only a couple of general sentences... Berli
