It portrays a lieutenant (Kevin Costner) caught up in the American civil war, who is tired of fighting and wants to see the American frontier before its gone.
He dices with death taunting the enemy grey coats to shoot him to end his anguish and pain, but this is seen by his generals as an act of courage and he is given an assignment of his choosing.
Of course, he ends up in a remote fort on the frontier and meets the local Native American Sioux tribe who are his only neighbours.
There are several funny moments when he tries to communicate with the Sioux, who he befriends, and falls in love with a white woman raised...

Advantages: KEVIN COSTNER great songs KEVIN COSTNER good storyline KEVIN COSTNER Disadvantages: Gary Kemp should have left the acting to his brother Martin.
...I hadn't watched this film in so long but came across it when I noticed that it was on sale for £6.67 for the specialedition at Choices (see my review on this fantastic company to learn more if you haven't already) and had to treat myself as my original video copy is so worn out it will hardly play at all. If I didn't love Choices before I certainly do now. I remember the first time I watched this film was in the evening wiht my mates with a rented copy and I enjoyed it so much that I got up early the next morning and watched it again before I went to work. As soon as it came out on video to buy I rushed out to get it, something I was not in the habit of doing and remember this was at a time when the sales side of things didn't happen at the same time as rental release. They were also a bit more expensive in those days before all...
