Advantages: amazing acting and storyline, gorgeous scenery and music Disadvantages: May be too long for some
This film is one which hubby really wanted to see but it had never really appealed to me but once I found out it was Kevin Costner who played the lead I was swayed slightly so decided to treat him to the DVD.
John Dunbar is serving in the US Army and it is the 1860?s. He gets badly injured and is told he will loose his foot. As a last resort he manages to get away from the hospital an makes his way to a post where the high ranking officers are and after he shows bravery and courage, he really just wanted to be killed, he is treated by their doctors and his foot and leg are saved. As a result he is promoted to Lieutenant and told he can serve at any post he wants.
Dunbar decides he wants to go to the Frontier and see it before it is lost so off he sets but he soon discovers that the men their have all been killed so he sets camp up ...
Advantages: Fun, great music, basic and easy to understand Disadvantages: not so good to "get fit", too basic at some points
I've literally just finished the end of this DVD and thought Id write the review whilst it was still fresh in my mind!
Pineapple Studios Everybody Dance does what it says on the tin "Learn To Dance, Get fit, & have fun!" - but only just.
The choreographer is really good, and her credibility is backed up by the fact that she has worked with stars like the Sugababes, Rihanna and Mary J Blige. You definitely warm to her, shes not patronising, and you do feel part of the dance class whilst she is teaching you the moves!
There are three main routines that she teaches you, each with a chorus and verse - "Maneater" by Nelly Furtado, "SOS" By Rhianna, "Aint No Other Man" by Christina Aguilera and "Beep" by The Pussycat Dolls. The DVD also includes other extras like meeting the dance troupe, make up tips etc as well as a full routine ...
Advantages: It's a Classic Disadvantages: Absolutely None
Barry's score is a wonderful representation of understated yet epic, simple yet powerful, long-drawn but melodious music. Barry deliberately steered away from writing a Western score (after all Dances With Wolves is not your everyday Western), as well as deciding to leave the period Native American music to other hands. Instead Barry took John Dunbar as a starting point, preferring to focus on his story; his journey to the American frontier, his encounters and observations with the Sioux, and his assessment of these people. The main John Dunbar Theme is one of the most recognizable themes ever to rise from the movies and it is a popular addition on many compilation albums. The theme has two distict personifications: one is a small, haunting fanfare that opens and closes the film and the second (the more important one) an extended string ...
