DVD Description
Just as LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE did in 2006, DAN IN REAL LIFE reveals that Steve Carell is an actor who can do more than just comedy. He's won both accolades and awards as bumbling boss Michael Scott on THE OFFICE, but there's a greater depth to this performance as a single father and man in love. Advice columnist Dan Burns (Carell) has his hands full with three daughters that he's not willing to let grow up. The girls still grieve for their mother who died four years ago, and Dan hasn't made any attempts to date. So he's pleasantly surprised when he meets Marie (Juliette Binoche) at a bookstore when he goes to his parents' Rhode Island home for the annual family reunion. But his joy is short-lived when he discovers that she is dating his brother (Dane Cook), forcing Dan to hide his feelings and chemistry with Marie. Carell adeptly balances his role's humour and heartache, while Binoche (CHOCOLAT) is radiant as ever. Comedian Cook (GOOD LUCK CHUCK) shows surprising talent as the third leg of their love triangle. Through his duties as director and co-screenwriter, Peter Hedges deserves much of the credit for creating a film that is sweet without being sappy. Even though he's working with a far bigger budget than he did for his directorial debut, PIECES OF APRIL, he still maintains the feelings of intimacy and honesty that made that film such a critical favourite. What could have been a standard romantic comedy of errors turns into a strong film that goes deeper than many of its peers in the genre. DAN IN REAL LIFE also succeeds thanks to its soundtrack from Norwegian indie pop musician Sondre Lerche. The singer's compositions, both originals and favourites from his career, perfectly suit the film's tone and moods.
Advantages: Comedy/ Drama / well acted/ entertaining Disadvantages: Rushed ending

Dan Burns (Steve Carell) is a widowed father of three young girls aged 9, 14 and 17. He struggles with life as we see in the very first scene. His reluctant rise from his lonely bed before he starts another depressing day is clear for all to see. Even though he still misses his wife, thats not to say hes a bad father. He loves his girls, maybe a little too much. His overprotective nature may be natural for a man in his position but it prevents his eldest from driving even though shes passed her driving test and it prevents his middle daughter from making out with her boyfriend...

Advantages: Nice family style movie Disadvantages: That dancing
...It seems like yesterday that Dan In RealLife was touring UK cinemas, and now here I am reviewing the upcoming DVD release.
A Steve Carrel movie is a varied thing, while in recent years his movies have dominated the box office and he seems like a genuinely nice guy I cannot deny I have not found any of his work overly pleasing, I was disappointed by Little Miss Sunshine, bored by the running time of 40 Year Old Virgin, indifferent to TV series The Office (US Version) and we won't even talk about Evan Almighty. So I say with quiet confidence that I was less than happy to sit through Dan In RealLife.
Dan (Steve Carrel) is a father, for four years he has raised three children alone after the death of his wife. In those four years he has been protective towards his offspring, focusing his life and soul into them. From a career...

Advantages: You don't go without a laugh for long! Disadvantages: The movie had to end!
...When I first saw this DVD advertised I just had to got out and buy it. I think it had something to do with one of the Dan (one of the main characters) being mistaken for a bears cub. For those who haven't seen the movie you are probably thinking "what is she on about?". Let me start from the beginning.
The main characters include:
Dan (Seth Green) - The hypocondriac who thinks he has every ailment and phobia going. He is the weaker one of the friends who always gets persuaded into doing things he doesn't really want to do. He also makes an amazing prop, as you will see in the movie.
Tom (Dax Shepard) - The most hilarious of the three. Hes always making out that hes onto bigger and better things in life when he really isn't. I'm also surprised he hasn't got a bigger nose than pinocchio with all the lies he tells. That is probably...
