Daddy Day Care was released by Revolution Studios in 2003. Written by Geoff Rodkey and directed by Steve Carr. The Cast Charlie Hinton - Eddie Murphy (Showtime, Beverly Hills Cop) Phil - Jeff Garlin (Curb Your Enthusiasm) Marvin - Steve Zahn (National Security, You've Got Mail) Ben Hinton - Khamani Griffin (Barnyard, Happy Feet) Kim Hinton - Regina King (Jerry Maguire, Miss Congeniality 2) Bruce - Kevin Nealon (Weeds) Dan Kubitz - Jonathan Katz (Dr. Katz) Ms. Harridan - Angelica Houston (The Addams Family) .... and a whole cast of adorable kids, many of whom are recognisable from other roles.
For any fans of House, watch our for Lisa Edelstein (Dr. Cuddy in House) as virtually unrecognisable plastic surgery obsessed mom to spoilt Crispin. Charlie Hinton enjoys his role as successful advertising excutive. Unluckily for him and best pal Phil, they are stuck with selling health foods to kids, such as Veggie-Os! Not an easy task. When the focus group flops, the company decide to shut down the whole health food division, leaving Charlie, Phil and their colleagues out of work.
Charlie'e wife Kim has just started practising as a lawyer, having been a stay at home mom to their son Ben since she finished law school. Ben has been enrolled in the very strict and ordered Chapman Academy pre-school, run by the intimidating Ms. Harridan. When Charlie fails to find another job after six weeks, the Hinton's have no choice but to take Ben out of Chapman, due to the astronomical fees. When searching for another decent but affordable childcare, they realise anything else on offer is nothing short of appauling, so Chapman has the market cornered. Charlie decides that to keep some money coming in, he and Phil will run an affordable childcare from his (beautiful) home until they find work. Kim reluctantly agrees and so Daddy Day Care is born. Although people are dubious about two men running a childcare, after a shaky start, DDC is a roaring success. So roaring that Ms. Harridan starts losing a lot of her students. Irritated by this, she calls Child Services. Although Mr. Kubitz of Child Services approves DDC after some changes, and the hiring of an extra Daddy in Marvin (Mail Room guy at the advertising company) this is the start of a rivalry between DDC and Ms. Harridan. Will Daddy Day Care stay open? Will Charlie redifine his priorities?
An amusing family film with lots of funny antics from the children and adults alike, including a fight between Charlie and Phil dressed as a stalk of Broccoli and a Carrot! Charlie and Phil also learn why it's not best to feed kids a sugar-based diet! It also manages some touching moments as Charlie reconnects with his son Ben and grows to care for the other children. This is one of my all tim favourite movies, Eddie Murphy is fantastic in this role as a loving dad distracted by work. With the supporting cast all excellent and the children all putting in superb performances, it's one that can be watched again and again and still raise a laugh. It always cheers me up if I'm a bit down.
Entertaining family fun, with sweet moments. Run time 92 min approx Rating PG
