their glory days as creators of Max Headroom. Sometimes mocked at the time for its extravagant visual imagery, this is a film which has aged better than might have been expected. Vastly reworked from the 40s original,D.O.A.stars Dennis Quaid as the burned-out campus novelist who discovers he has been fatally poisoned and sets out to find his killer in the short time left to him, along the way rediscovering his love for the life he is going to lose.Quaid is good enough both at chain-smoking cynicism and angry zest that this becomes emotionally credible; a worryingly young Meg Ryan is excellent as the hero-worshipping sophomore he co-opts into his search. With camerawork of sometimes hallucinatory vividness, rather too many shots of fans and Ferris wheels, and Charlotte Rampling playing a dragon-lady villainess to the hilt, this is a film which teeters on the brink of camp, but has the courage of its individuality. On the DVD:D.O.A.comes to disc with almost no special features whatever save for a Spanish soundtrack and subtitles in Spanish and the Scandinavian languages. Its widescreen visual aspect is 1.85:1 and the Dolby sound does full justice to a very loud score by bands like Timbuk 3.--Roz Kaveney

Professional reviews
Review: "...A barnstorming performance by Dennis Quaid..." (Variety, 16/03/1988)
Advantages: Dark compelling story with more twists than several corkscrews, good characters Disadvantages: None, except what a pity they don't make 'em like this anymore
...like its star Dennis Quaid, is not worth seeing!
For those who are not aware of it, 'D.O.A'. is the acronym for an American medical phrase often used by police, 'Dead on Arrival', hence the very apt title for the film.
Recommended as a definite must-see, even for those who wouldn't normally watch old films. This is a real classic.
My copy is not the same DVD as that depicted on this page, but is from a collection called '50 Dark Crimes Classics', in which there are no extras, so this is a film-only review.
Also on dooyoo.
(***UPDATED 22-3-09 - As one of my first-ever reviews on Ciao nearly 3 years ago, have expanded on this to try to improve it past the original merely 'Helpful' level!)...

Advantages: Quite good extras Disadvantages: All in one long episode
...game that children would love.
Roly?s storytime
Listen to Roly tell the story of ?The kings tea party?.
This is quite a sweet part of the Fimbles though my daughter does not seem to take to the storytime on here which is unusual as she loves stories.
R-O-C-K-I-T Song
Sing a long to Rockits songs
A lovely extra which my daughter loves dancing too and trying to sing the words.
As well as the DVD extras there are full interactive menus which are easy to navigate for adults and children alike and also a website address which is easy to find online which provides more Fimbles games.
EDUCATIONAL VALUE
I don?t think I can really say that this DVD is that educational. It does the usual sing and copy songs though it doesn?t really teach much else except from what they are watching, for example ? the colour of Fimbo?s fur. It isn?t one...

Advantages: entertaining, great length, good features, appealing natural comedy Disadvantages: sorry, if you're under 12, its a no-go!
...I am a Telly Addict. I'll admit it, it's my life. What's more, I love anything that has me in stitches. So what better than to combine two of my favourite things and come up with an amazing show?! Harry Hill's TV Burps is a comedy show, presented by Harry Hill, which airs every on and off on ITV1. He also writes the script for the show too, which must result in him non-stop working. It first started in 2001 when Hill was just 37, and has been a success for the last eight years now. Each episode, Hill takes us on a journey to look back at that weeks' television, and everything comic about it. Often, there is a celebrity guest appearing in the audience-filled studio, to bring the entertainment and laughter to a peak. Now we can enjoy this magic on a DVD!
For Christmas I had asked for Harry Hill's TV Burp Gold DVD, however I did not...
