It is a peculiar film compared to a modern war film. The title Overlord caught my eye straight away as it is the code name for D-day and this subject interested me. The film overlooks all aspects of D-day and war. It shows evidence of evacuation processes, family life during the Second world war, coping with death and the training of soldiers during this time. The soldiers are shown very differently to todays soldiers given how they had to join without a choice in that period of time. ...I you ever wanted to know what it would have been like to have fought in world war 2 then buy the band of brothers box set. Directed by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. The series follows the men of Easy company from boot camp to VE day. Based on the testimony of real soldiers from the airborne division, it is the closest portrayal of the second world war i have ever watched. Watching band of brothers really made me think about how lucky i am to live in an era when the world is not at war. It also shows just how much ordinary men sacrificed, for the freedom of others. The cast is excellent and every single acting performance is fantastic. Especially the performances of Damian Lewis ( Maj. Richard D. Winters), Donnie Wahlberg ( 2nd Lt. C. Advantages: Top class performances, superb, realistic depiction of D Day
Disadvantages: Tad too long

..., the French Resistance fighters and the British. It also helped that the military consultants for this movie were people who had actually seen first hand combat in D-Day. The popular military tune was written by Paul Anka, a popular Canadian singer who also acted in the movie. The movie starts off with a French resistance squad receiving coded information about a likely Allied assault on the coast of Normandy. Codenamed as Operation Overlord, it was the largest sea borne invasion in history, with 3 million troops. The main divisions came from US, UK and Canada in the assault phase. And then the movie goes into the actual planning phase, with the senior officers planning out the assault. The French resistance job was to blow up train tracks, bridges to halt the German advance.
