Advantages: Van Damme action Disadvantages: Lame film
One of Van Damme's first films and he will be glad that it was. At least he hadn't gotten much of a following at that point. If he had, it would have destroyed his career!
The plot is almost non-existent, set in post-apocalyptic future with a disease ravaging the American nation...scientists are close to the cure and Gibson (Van Damme) is en route to help spur them on.
The action isn't too bad, but as always in these films you get the whole Van ... ...to come up against a dumb opponent at the end where he nearly loses just to put up a spirited fight back at the end to claim the victory....cliched to the hilt.
I wouldn't recommend it unless you are a Van Damme follower who has yet to see this film. ...

Advantages: NONE, its terrible Disadvantages: I don't have enough characters to list them
For some unfathomable reason I watched this on Sky about a month ago. Must have been an od lapse of bad taste. Don't watch this movie unless you want to be labeled a baffon with no class what-so-ever. I won't tell you the plot because there isn't one basically.
The usual thing, a disease has wiped out most of humanity and now there is this one warlord who is a complete butchering phsyco (for no real reason, he just is) that goes around killing everyone. ... ...was probably assasinated after this film anyway. Lets just say he had the acting expertise of a wombat. He also had the strange need to contort his face into the look of one who has constipation every five minutes. Must have no Climoval in the future.......
Jean Claudde Van Dam (or how ever you spell it, I'll just call him JCVD from now on). Is probably one of the worst actors in the history of bad actors. I have not seen one movie of his which ...

Advantages: Space Battles, The Borg, Star Trek at its best Disadvantages: You will of had to watch series to follow the story
...First Contact is the 8th movie in the Star Trek saga and it is the first film in the series devoted entirely to the crew of the Next Generation led by Patrick Stewart as Captain Picard.
The basic story is that the crew of the starship Enterprise have to save the Earth from the evil Borg Cyborgs. There is plenty of action and suspense in the film and if you haven't seen Star Trek before, you can still enjoy it.
The film is great to see on DVD and you have the choice of either normal screen or widescreen versions(I recommend the widescreen to enjoy the cinema feel)
The DVD comes with the usual extras and is a better buy than the video release....

Advantages: Fills in the gaps in Star Wars history Disadvantages: Not for the non fan
....
Gaps in information of Jedi tradition are filled in when we get to see Luminari instruct her Padawan as to how to construct a lightsaber. All these little nuggets of information make the long time fan go "ahh, so that's what it was like." This is where the Clone Wars cartoon excells itself. On the whole the thing that keeps a fan like me interested in a cartoon is seeing yet more missing bits of the jigsaw fall into place.
Ultimately by the end of the 20th episode we are pretty much bang up to date with the start of Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith. Anakin has a very moody and atmospheric battle with Ventress and we see a whole group of Jedi almost wiped out by a certain General Grevious. This was the first time that SW fans got a chance to see the cyborg bad guy of Episode 3 in action.

Advantages: First Superman film since the mid eighties Disadvantages: Remake
...it ‘Superman: The Man Of Steel’ with a potential 2009 release with Luthor as the villain of the piece. Well the way things are going it probably be Zod again as the remake fever is sure to continue for a few more years before the studio’s realise that this is costing them there jobs as well as a loss of profits.
What annoys me is that the Superman Universe has a plethora of villains that it can use. For example: Brainiac, Parasite, Metallo, The Cyborg, Darkseid and so on to name but a few. But it is choosing to play safe and be green and recycle old stories. This is not what he public wants, in fact in response I took the DVD back and got a refund as this was not what I wanted to see from a film that could have promised so much from all the hype it generated. If a sequel does get the go-ahead then they need to radically rethink the style...
