thing. The show--largely extemporized--follows suit of David's former series, Seinfeld: it's a show about nothing, just the everyday life of the star going about his pseudo-real world. But David's show has far more edge (thanks, in part, to airing on cable TV) with all the bad luck, embarrassing situations, and dreadful behavior as its premiere season. The closest thing to an arc is David's season-long pitch to the networks for a new show starring former Seinfeld stars Jason Alexander and Julia-Louis Dreyfus. Each network is lampooned, especially HBO, which David has a bad history with in this alternate world. Sure to repel those with soft funny bones, Curb's acerbic comedy allows jokes where David is accidentally framed--if ever so briefly--as a child molester, wife abuser, or murderer. But for those who do love his shtick, there are big laughs, especially when we bump into characters as unbridled as David, like a fellow writer who is quite protective of his dad's invention, the Cobb salad. Many comic actors pop up, some as "themselves" (Richard Lewis, Rob Reiner) and others as characters (Rita Wilson, Ed Asner) along with the delights of co-stars Cheryl Hines as David's wife and his affable manger, Jeff Garlin. There are several touchstone bits: what a thong brief can do to a relationship, a run-in with pro wrestler, Larry's first baptism, and one very collectible doll. To pick one episode to capture this second season--and its grandstanding nature--it would be "Shaq," in which the NBA star is accidentally tripped, changing David's usual bad luck with gut-busting results. --Doug Thomas

Advantages: Clever, subtle comedy, combined with broad farce Disadvantages: May be an acquired taste; not for the narrow-minded
...is also the star of Curb Your Enthusiasm (CYE), a cult US TV sitcom also based loosely on his life and character. The Larry we see in the show is thus a very rich, fifty-something semi-retired comedy producer. He is well-meaning but socially inept. He combines elements of Victor Meldrew, Homer Simpson and Basil Fawlty. Yet he is far more complex, clever and casual than any of those characters. His basically easy-going outlook is balanced by the same ... ...to abandon his often arbitrary principles lands him in trouble and even in court. His jokes are taken the wrong way; his friendly gestures are misunderstood; his attempts at political correctness enrage the very groups he seeks to placate. - WHAT IS THE SHOW ABOUT? -
We follow Larry's everyday, mainly leisured existence in and around his sumptuous California home. He socialises with friends (including appearances as themselves by the likes of Ted ...

Curb Your Enthusiasm is in the same style, story wise as Seinfeld, and no surprise there as Larry David is the co-creator, producer and writer of said show. Each episode involves a number of situations that build and build until poor Larry ends up with everything all coming together at the end, normally in an unfortunate collision of events that leave Larry at a loss, once more!
Curb is a fake documentary style look, though it ... ...from his predicament.
Curb is an unusual series for an American one, probably why it is on HBO over there (a cable only company who likes to push the boat a bit in the series they show). It is far drier than The Office but just as excruciating sometimes. I personally don’t like The Office but it does remind me off it in style. The Main Characters:
Larry David – The star of the show. He is a 40’sish balding Jewish TV writer/producer/comedian. His ...

Advantages: Very Funny, Different, No laugh track Disadvantages: Not for everyones tastes, no extras
...it to another level.
Curb Your Enthusiasm is an improvised comedy revolving around the life of Seinfeld creator Larry David. Here is a man who has it all yet always manages to offend, put his foot in it and generally make a bad situation even worse. For him it's a nightmare that usually ends in some form of redemption. For the audience it's a consistently funny show that never dips in quality.
Season Two has a recurring theme of Larry coming together ... ...projects. But along the way he naturally screws up.
Here's a rundown of the episodes.
-The Car Salesman-
Larry surprises his wife Cheryl by taking a job as a car salesman. Unfortunately Larry's sales methods prove unsuccessful with the clients, Meanwhile he contemplates hooking up with Seinfeld's Jason Alexander to make a new project. But it's a case of life imitating art.
This is a great start off episode where the highlights are Larry's sales ...

DVD Description
Everyone's favourite miserable millionaire is back for another season of unparalleled hilarity. This year, in addition to buying and settling into a new house, Larry manages to send Shaquille O'Neal to the hospital, offend a fellow Jewish neighbour, aggravate a professional wrestler, give an unwanted haircut to a doll, and much, much more. Once again, Larry David (co-creator of SEINFELD) has assembled a brilliant supporting cast--Cheryl Hines, Jeff Garlin, Wanda Sykes, Richard Lewis, Susie Essman--to realise his vision of a world that is comprised of one unfortunate misunderstanding after another.
