Advantages: FETURES 'NEVER SEEN ON BRITISH TELEVISION' EPISODES OF MONKEY, PIGSY AND SANDY CAUSING MAYHEM Disadvantages: COSTS £18.00 FOR FOUR EPISODES ON DVD
...Being a great fan of ‘Monkey’ I know a lot more about it than I wrote in my first opinion. I just didn’t realise I would receive such a great response from people wanting to know more about it – so here is a more in depth opinion of the classic TV show ‘Monkey’.
‘Monkey’ is based on a novel by Wu Ch’eng-en who wrote his book with close association to local legends and folklore which the Chinese community hold close to their hearts. Ch’eng-en wrote this in the middle of the 16th century using ideas and revelations from as early as the 10th century as the basis for his contemporary adaptation of the pilgrimage of Tripitaka to India. Tripitaka is a real person from history who lived in the 7th century although better known as Hsuan Tsang.
As a child viewing this cult classic I could never distinguish whether Tripitaka was a boy or a girl...

Advantages: Captures the concert well Disadvantages: Not enough coverage of the other acts
...This is one of the few live DVDs avaialble that capture the majesty of Genesis P-Orridge's Psychic TV. It offers two performance by the legend himself - one as Psychic TV, the other as Thee Majesty (a spoken word performance with incidental music). The event, in London also featured a number of other bands such as Question Mark and the Mysterians and Billy Childish's Thee Headcoats. Even though their tracks have been cut down to one for the DVD its a great introduction to these other artists - Billy Childish in particular is worth checking out. The extra features are a little sparse but include a collage of back-stage snippets - see if you can spot Genesis and the magic number 23 in these as well as a short converstaion with Quentin Crisp....

The Legend Review ofJet Li - The LegendDVDby

Advantages: One of Jet Li's best Disadvantages: Bad dubbing
...My dad taped this off BBC2 for me late one night, around eight or nine years ago. We thought is was the best thing since Enter the Dragon. Admittedly there was not a lot of Kung fu on terrestrial tv at the time (or now for that matter). Short of absurd dubbing (which lost it one star) this is an all round Brilliant film. Love it. (Also I'm sure I remember this film being called something like 'Once upon a time in China: The legend of Fong Sai Yuk' if that is true then maybe western publishers think we cant handle a title that descriptive. I also remember years ago seeing a sequel, and it being rubbish. Definately worth buying, a must for Jet Li and kung fu lovers....
