game,Resident Evil Zerogoes even further back in time with this all-new prequel to the infamous "mansion incident". This time you control Rebecca Chambers (the rookie medic featured in Chris's story from the first game) and "framed for a crime he didn't commit" prison escapee Billy Coen. Unlike previousResident Evilgames, though, you actually get to control both characters, and simultaneously; you can switch between either at any time, choose to have your partner tag along with you, set them to shoot automatically whenever a monster comes near or even control them manually with the C-stick. This unusual system works well and is, as you'd expect, a basis for a lot of split-up-necessitating puzzles.Another welcome change from the usualResident Evilformula is the absence of item boxes--now you can drop items whenever and wherever you like. In most other areasResi 0is business as usual, as you creep around a series of genuinely creepy mansions, trains and underground bases fervently wishing you had enough bullets to deal with all the foul monsters that are out to get you, many of which, without wishing to spoil the surprise, are not technically zombies this time around. If you haven't liked previousResident Evilgames you're unlikely to change your mind now, but such sourpusses are the only ones who will fail to be captivated by this highly entertaining, atmospheric and (at least in comparison to some of its predecessors) innovative game. --David Jenkins

So CUBE becomes another sell-out to the "ZERO" concept.
And it manages to prove itself worthy.
I assume you have watched the other CUBE movies first; if you haven't don't read this read my "CUBE" review.
For those that have watched CUBE and HYPERCUBE please read on.
This is the beginning of the CUBE story. In this film we get to see:
1) The first inhabitants of ... ...placing random people in the cube without consent. We never see who "THEY" are, although we do see a higher authority representative try to track the rescuer down.
This authority figure is a little overly and unnecessarily cartoon, however I guess it works. But ultimately he reports to another who we do not see.
Essentially CUBE ZERO attempts to provide some answers, but deliberately throws up some more.

This is the beginning of the CUBE story. In this film we get to see: 1) The first inhabitants of the prison 2) Who is behind CUBE? 3) How it works 4) What happens if you escape? But this in itself would not make a great movie that would merit me raving about it.
So what elevates it to the higher echelon of conceptual movie greatness?
PLOT
In addition to the prisoners trying to find their way out we also see the observers who watch the prisoners as they progress. One decides to rescue one of the inhabitants as he discovers "THEY" are placing random people in the cube without consent.
When one person reaches the exit we see him presented with questions about the existence of GOD. I feel the film could have made more of this, but however in a Sci-Fi film bringing theological discussions is probably a little too much.
The traps are gorier / the CUBE is more solid than the previous movies. There are some clever touches of set design in that the observers observe from deep underground and are themselves in a trap from which they cannot escape.
But the most stunning idea in the whole movie is at the end and this is why you need to have watched the other movies first.
The ending is genius!! Genius because although no secret is revealed; no answers given what happens at the end harks back to the first film and is very much an "Ahh Hah!" moment.
You can see places where the budget was stretched, but nothing is too cheap and I can let these little things pass.
In short you can watch CUUBE ZERO without thinking of the pain you felt when you watched Dusk to Dawn 3.
COST, FEATURES, etc
On top of all this CUBE ZERO is on sale for about £8.99 (all the Cube movies are cheap)

Advantages: Better than Cube 2 Disadvantages: Worse than Cube
Cube was a classic movie. It was both original, groundbreaking and intelligent. While it certainly had it's pitfalls it was definitely unique. With just one set (and yes, it really was only ONE set) and a very small budget one of the greatest sci-fi horror films was born. Could any sequel or prequel live up to it? Cube 2: Hypercube answered that question with a very definite "no, a sequel could not live up to the original" So how about a prequel?
... ...don't know, Cube started as one of the lowest budget science fiction hits ever. It's story was simple and to be honest plot was lacking but the originality, the fantastic idea and the exploration of human emotions dragged me in. A number of people were trapped inside a hollow cube large enough for them to move around in. This was in turn connected to many other cubes. As they wandered throughout the maze of cubes they realised two things.
Firstly, ...

Advantages: A must for gore fans. Disadvantages: Weak plot.
Firstly i will admit to not having known this is part of a trilogy, so i can't coment on how it fits into the series. Although i feel you didn't need to have seen the others to follow what plot it had.
It starts of with the most gory death in a horror film i have ever seen, me and my friend were squeeling in delight. There is a lot of death and gore in this film, and some pretty inventive ways to die, pretty much like the ideas from 'saw', although ... ...you get the impression that these people in the rooms are prisoners of some kind, however they have no or very little memory of what happened to them before they ended up in the room. They swap a few words with each other and set of to explore, alas some of the rooms they enter are booby trapped, which is how most of them end up dead in various gruesome ways.
This is all watched over by what appears to be a control room with 2 men following 'orders' ...

Advantages: excercises the mind Disadvantages: cube 2 needs more deaths !
Three words, AHHH MY HEAD (in a good way)
Fantastic set of three films, the concept is most unreal.
We have 3 films which all follow the same concept of the cube except the watching order should be CUBE then CUBE two then CUBEZERO.
CUBEZERO is set before the other two films but was brought out after both films.
So, CUBE, is really a mind boggle. Basically we are faced with 6 people inside this 'cube', each of them have a 'purpose' you could say at first, more like the are somehow related to the cube. These people have no recollition of being kidnapped etc. Some of the rooms in the cube have traps, nice lovely traps of death! ( we see someone firstly get cheese grated basically.. it's impressive really)Each one is different and the lack of CGI is good. If you are not a fan of films with lack of CGI you probably wont like this ...
An intelligent horror film that is equal parts mathematical acumen and very realistic gore, CUBE ZERO is the third instalment in the popular Canadian indie CUBE series. A prequel to the first, the central scheme is the same: a diverse group of individuals prone to infighting wake up in a booby trap-laden cube where one identical chamber leads to another. With no exit in sight, they are forced to get along and make use of their respective talents, but many--usually those with the most antagonistic personalities--are lost along the way. This instalment, however, provides some answers the mystery of the Cube, with a subplot involving a technician on the 'other side' who experiences a change of heart, and undertakes to save the group in a most unexpected way. An improvement on the last instalment in the series, CUBE ZERO provides characters the audience can care about as well as some ingenious ways of killing off its bad guys.
