Ok, I’ve already wrote an opinion on Cruel Intentions I know, but the DVD is so good that I just had d=to write another one on the DVD itself!
So, if you want to know what the movies about, this isn’t the place to get the info from, you’d be better looking at the opinions on the film itself.
Right, so onto the DVD. What has it got that makes it so good in my humble opinion? Well you know when you either rent or buy a DVD and look forward to all the extras then find a theatrical trailer and nothing else, well this DVD isn’t one of them! Here we go….
- US Theatrical Trailer.
Right, well you know what this is don’t you, its basically the trailer to the film that was released in the US in the cinemas before it came out. It’s got that man who seems to do the voice overs to all the trailers in it at the end aswell! It’s quite a long trailer and you’ve practically watched the film when you’ve seen it!!
- Behind the Scenes Feature
This
starts off a bit like the trailer but then you are introduced to the characters and what the films about, i.e it’s the updated version of ‘Dangerous Liasons’. You get small interviews, actually I wouldn’t call them interviews, comments, that’s better from the actors along with bits of film that were not shot for the film and were shot back stage. You also get the actors view on the director and what they think of him. You know what I’m on about don’t you!?
- Director & Producer Audio Commentary
Actually, I must admit that I couldn’t quite figure out what this was about, it took me to a page about subtitles and you could select a language for the audio commentary. Where you actually get the commentaries is a mystery to me!
- Music Videos
I liked a lot of the songs that were featured in this movie and was exited to find that you could watch the music videos from the songs that were used in the film. Sadly though there were only 2 videos which you could watch: ‘Every You, Every Me – Placebo’ and ‘Coming up From Behind – Marcy Playground’. Now, onto the reasons that you can watch these videos…. The videos incorporated parts of the film into it. Now I just thought this way a clever way of doing things, however, my girlfriend said the videos were actually made around the film. How true this is I don’t know, but she knows a lot of facts like this so I’ll believe her.
- Deleted Scenes
There are 5 deleted scenes that you can view on the DVD. Why they were deleted I’ll never know as they seem to be either better than the scenes they used instead or would have added something to the film to make it more clear. Blokes, if your looking for any girls with their tops off, then you should view the scene ‘Sebastian vs The Cheerleader’ as this is the only place you will get it, you won’t get it in the film! Anyway, the deleted scenes are done in the usual style, a explanation by the director as to why they were cut etc
- Facts & Filmographies
This is done in the usual style. Click an actor and you’ll get a bit written about them and what movies they have appeared in before and about their career and maybe their upbringing etc. You can get this information for 4 of the main actors and the director.
Ahhh, I’ve just found out what the commentaries bit does. If you play the movie with the commentary running, you get the director (and some other people) talking you through the movie, how useful that it I really don’t know! It is actually quite funny to listen to, but it wears off after a while!! It does give you a sense of relating to the director though and why the film was shot in different ways.
So that’s it. I viewed the Region 2 version of the DVD so I don’t know if the region 1 version differs from this one or not. If you are looking to view cruel intentions and are wondering whether to get it on VHS or DVD (well, obviously you should get it on DVD anyway) then you should really go for the DVD just for the extra features that it offers. Well worth the extra couple of quid if you ask me!

To save reading your other review, film details would have been useful here as well, but I understand
why you didn't include them. I thought the movie was ok, but certainly wouldn't buy it on DVD.

It's my opinion that this is exactly what ops in the DVD section should be like. I hope some other writers read this and take note! Hannah :o)
