I was sorting out all my DVDs that I have not yet watched yesterday, and vowed to watch them all before Christmas. So I started on the right track by watching one last night, this was Cruel Intentions 2.
THE PLOT
This film is set before the first Cruel Intentions. A young guy called Sebastian, who is played by Robin Dunne has to go and live with his father, stepmother and step sister Kathryn, who is played by Amy Adams. When he arrives he realizes that his stepmother is loaded and he is going to be living in her mansion and on top of that Kathryn and her stepmother are very stuck up and snobby.
Sebastian has to start a new school with Kathryn, where all the students are rich and snobby, but Sebastian manages to fall for the only plain Jane in the school, who just happens to be the headmaster's daughter. But for those of you that have seen Cruel Intentions you will know that it can not be that simple, so when Kathryn starts playing games with Sebastian there are lots of twists and turns in the story line.
THE DISAPPOINTMENT
The main thing that disappointed me about this film was that none of the cast was the same as the first one, and although I think that Amy Adams did a fairly good job of carrying on the character that was created in the first film, I don't think the same can be said for Robin Dunne. His week character did not convince me when in the first film Sebastian was so strong and dominant.
Some of the scenes where very reminiscent of the first film as well, some of the lines were even the same and if you have seen the first one it is a bit predictable. It is a bit cringe worthy in some parts and there is also of sexual scenes, so I would not recommend watching this with people that you are not comfortable with.
THE GOOD BITS
The story line has lots of twists and turns, and even if you do guess the twists its still amusing to watch.
You do not need to have seen the first Cruel Intentions to see this one, in fact as this is set before the first one it would probably be better to watch this one first.
THE VERDICT
Overall this film is not bad, its not in the same league as the first one as the characters are not as believable and the acting is not as good, although the story is much the same but with a less tragic ending.
I would recommend watching this film as its only 83 minutes long and if you liked the first one I don't think you will hate this one.
If you did not like the first one I would not recommend this one as it is much the same. If you have not seen the first one I would watch this one first, and then even if you don't like it I would watch the first one anyway, as it is better far than this one.
