CRUCIBLE - A HIDDEN GEM!!

Advantages: brilliant actors/actresses
Disadvantages: A little too fast paced with the action

I first had to read The Crucible a few weeks ago for my GCSE coursework.. my god was it boring! Probably because I was tired and ill during those weeks, but still the play failed to keep me awake. So, when we came to watch the DVD I didnt have high expectations... but I think its fair to say that i was mildly suprised. I found that the DVD really brought the book to life, and managed to give spark to the storylines. okay so heres the low down... Im gonna explain the plot so there might be a few spoilers, if you dont want to know, scroll down the page to the next heading. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * THE PLOT SYNOPSIS * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * The opening scene introduces us to Abigail, Tituba and other girls in Salem. Run away from this in terror

Advantages: Some decent moments, somehow kept me watching until the end
Disadvantages: Mostly really bad across the board

This is a DVD I picked up for £1 a couple of years ago. I suppose the price should have told me something, but I gave it a shot, hoping to have found a bit of a gem. Face of Terror follows Nick Harper as he tries to find his missing sister in Barcelona. While travelling from the States to Spain without permission from his boss, cop Nick finds himself in even more hot water when he arrives in Europe to find that his sister had fallen in with the wrong crowd. As he trawls through dodgy photographers, drug dealers and terrorists, Nick realises he must have his wits about him if he is to find his sister before he loses his life. Ultimately, it's distinctly average in nearly every way. with a pretty mundane plot, some terrible acting, and some bad timing in the editing stakes. And yet, strangely, there's something intriguing about it ...

Review of Face Of Terror (DVD)

Well I'll be hanged!

Advantages: fascinating, not hard to follow, great cast, unique plot
Disadvantages: //

We had to read the text, 'The Crucible' in Drama as part of our unit of the Higher course. I did quite enjoy the play as it were written, but when we were told we could watch the DVD, I was quite excited. I had been 'warned' it was different from the book so the context would fit into a film, but just how different was it to be? And was it as good as I had expected? The Crucible is set in 1892, in Salem. This was the time when people were accusing one another of being witches, which was a 'hanging' punishment! In this film, a group of girls are conjuring spirits, with Tituba (a servant to Reverend Parris, from Barbados) leading them in the dance. Parris catches the girls, and finds his own daughter, Betty, in hysterics on the ground before fainting. He questions his niece, Abigail about this, but she assures him it is just fright that ...
