Winner of four oscars the DVD sleeve reads. Now, in my experience that has involved the most depressing, suicidal films ever made. But I had a good feeling about this film. Choregraphed by the bloke that did the stunts in The Matrix (Yuen Wo Ping), and starring several actors you probably won't recognise except the other girl from Tomorrow Never Dies.
The story centres around a 400-year old sword, 'The Green Destiny Sword', which is stolen after being donated by its owner to Sir Te (Lung Sihung), a respected leader who was a friend of Shu Lien's (Michelle Yeoh) father. Shu Lien is reluctant to take the sword until Li (Chow Yun Fat), explains that he is giving away the Green Destiny because, after years of fighting he wants to follow a new path in life.
To recover the sword, they must defeat the extremely skilled and talented Jen (Zhang Ziyi), a young princess who is fighting against an arranged marriage. In the process, Li is drawn towards the talents of Jen, and offers to train her as best he can, whilst at the same time coming to terms with his feelings for Shu Lien.
Amongst some of the best fighting sequences you will probably have ever seen, including people running, and flying up walls, are the most beautiful landscapes I have seen in any film for a long time.
I would recommend this film to the entire world, this has to be the best film I have ever seen. Although there is English dubbing, something I thought may bother me from the start, you are taken away from such a minor detail, as the story unfolds, and you begin to become drawn into the characters.
And then, to cap it all off, the DVD comes with several extra features including Photo Gallery, The Making Of, Feature length commentary, and filmographies

Nice op...I must be the only person I know who thought this film stank ! I couldn't get into it at all and am only pleased that Gladiator was there to trounce it at the Oscars. I do accept why people loved this film, but I simply didn't. Cheers, Martin :o)
