Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is NOT a kung fu movie! It is an epic comprised of three delicious Chinese myths. It has two deeply involving romance storylines. It addresses the peak of human spirit attainable through lifelong devotion, honour and discipline. It looks at the highest and darkest potential in all of us. It offers the viewer dreamlike fantasy, humour and bittersweet tragedy.
At the same time, this is one of the most peacefully beautiful films you will see, shot with a decadent innocence and love of the stories. The characters are utterly spellbinding, the English subtitling of Chinese dialogue detracting absolutely nothing at all from the colour and flow.
And the fighting… or is it theatre.. or dance? Who cares, it’s wonderful. You don’t have to be a kung fu fan to appreciate the choreography, which sets new standards in cinematic achievement.
If you're looking for a kung-fu movie, go and see it.
If you're not into fighting films, go and see it.
Summary: Go and see it. Don’t expect anything, because you WILL be surprised.
HINT: Sit towards the back of the theatre, then you’ll be able to take in the full onscreen action and read the subtitles at the same time.

I loved this film. I wish though that the healing herbs could have arrived in time. Also, I think it would have made more sense for the other woman to do the final act. Sorry, being esoteric here in order not to spoil the pleasure for those who have not seen it.
