This film has received so many great reviews recently but when I went to see it I felt it was slightly overrated. The storyline was difficult to follow in places; this was partly due to the subtitles and the bizarrely irrelevant dream sequence. Another thing which wasn't good was the ridiculous way the characters were able to jump massive distance (Matrix Style). However, the martial arts scenes on the ground were brilliant especially the one in the training gym. If you are a little lazy and unwilling to read the subtitles you won't like this film but if you do read them and can manage with the storyline you'll love it. The martial arts make this film so great and that is why it has been nominated for loads of awards. Brief outline of the plot: A troubled Warrior (Chow Yun Fat) is tired of his murderous ways so gives his fabulous 400 year old sword to a nobleman called Sir Te. The sword is then stolen by a wannabe female warrior. Chow Yun Fat spends the rest of the time chasing the female warrior thief and her witch master. Mixed in are stories of love between the thief and a nomad, love between Chow Yun Fat and his other female warrior friend, two brothers and their sister fight the witch to avenge their fathers death. Really when you think of it this could be split up into about three separate films. It would certainly be easier to understand.

This was a film filmed with the style and passion of the great oriently movie makers, if you were expecting a diluted westernised martial arts movie you went to see the wrong film. When this film came out I had to travel 40 mile round trip to see it and would again.
