THe film title, literally translated from a Mandarin proverb 'Wor Fu Chang Loong' bears the meaning 'A dangerous enemy with an even more dangerous hidden weapon'. ( GEt it? Crouching tiger hidden dragon)
Anyway, i'm not kidding. About the title of my opinion, that is. There really is a lot of flying that is done in this movie, though how the director expects the audience to swallow that is beyond me. Even the ancient, most powerful kung fu or marshall arts experts could only hang around in the air for a few seconds or so...I think, but do correct me if i'm wrong. But I digress.
Despite all that flying through trees and walking on water scenes (which is pretty cool, if you get rid of any cynicism) it's actually quite an entertaining movie. Chow Yun Fat, Michelle Yeoh (of Tomorrow Never Dies fame) and upcoming Chinese actress Zhang Zi-Yi deliver their roles pretty well with special praise to the latter for an especially outstanding performance. The plot revolves around a sacred sword that belongs to Chow Yun Fat that is to be returned to him, and his enemies' efforts to steal it from it. Throw in some romance between him and Yeoh, as well as the love-hate relationship between Zhang and a desert pirate and you've got yourself......this movie.
I think it is very artistic in the sense that the director makes use of sounds...silence when they are flying over rooftops, water ripples...none of that loud crash banging that is so typical of many Western movies. Do go watch this.
