...Stephen Herek's CRITTERS was released in the summer of 1986 and was immediately jumped upon as a genuine pastiche of the old B-movie horrors of the 50s; but is it a good film?
An asteroid somewhere in outer-space is home, or prison, to some very nasty creatures who manage to escape when they hijack a spaceship. They crash land on Earth, in a small American town, and soon start wreaking havoc amongst the community, first on a cow and then on a farm. Meanwhile, intergalactic police are on their trail. They send to Earth two bounty hunters who have the ability to morph into anything they see fit, one a famous rock star and the other of various disguises, to aid them in their hunt of the increasingly deadly critters.
I remember enjoying this low-budget film much more the first time round but, if truth be told, I still somewhat...

Advantages: Laughably scary Disadvantages: Makes you look at cuddly toys in a new light
...Out of all the millions of people in the Western world there
are a few who have tremendous imaginations. They must have to
think up the story line for Critters. I mean who could
possibly dream up balls of fur with very, very sharp teeth
with an appetite to rival that of a shark and then let them

sequels, to try and scare the pants off people.
Escaping from some far off planet these little bundles of cute
fur, until they open their mouths, try to eat their way out of
the American mid west by devouring every living thing in their
path. But the world can relax because they are pursued by two
intergalactic bounty hunters who with the help...

Advantages: Cheap Disadvantages: Not as good as £500 models
..."With the news of the Sony PS2 launch in October, some magazines and newspapers are talking of the end of standalone DVD players. After all, if you can have a top games console with DVD capabilities for £300, why spend £200-£500 on a box that just plays DVD's?
However, this type of thinking is totally stupid. Sure, the DVD option on the PS2 is very useful, and will be used by many buyers, but the quality of the sound and images is nothing like even the cheapest DVD players. The original Playstation played CD's, but people didn't throw away their CD players for the simple reason that the Playstation playback was pretty poor. Yes, people will play DVD's on their PS2's, but standalone DVD players will continue to sell well." - So what a lot of PS2 users wont have DVD players and you cant deny it - The PS2DVD quailty can be beaten by...
