A Ride That Doesn't Terminate Soon Enough

Advantages: Some realistic gore and a cute dog.
Disadvantages: Fails to scare, weak characterisation and is too long at 80 minutes

...reading some promising reviews about Creep around the time of its release. I remember thinking that this film had the potential to be chilling, as many people including myself have a fear of being stuck all alone in the dark and being freaked out by sounds around you.
At the beginning of this film I could sympathize with Kate and feel her fear of being all alone, and the emotions she must have felt when another train pulled into the station. ...
...

While Creep had so much potential it failed to deliver the goods in most areas, so therefore I don’t recommend you buy this film. If you do want to see it then I suggest you rent it out, or better still just wait until it comes on the tele and if you’ve got nothing better to do then give it a go.

Creep was released on DVD in 2004 and is available at Amazon for £5.97, or new & used from the marketplace starting at £1.99.  ... more

End of the Line

Advantages: Great setting | Nice start
Disadvantages: Doesn't last | Creep isn't creepy

...the place. So does Creep succeed or has it missed the last train? Party girl Kate is about to have a rough night. Stuck at a booze up that's going nowhere other than advances from serial womanizer Guy (Jeremy Sheffield) she decides what any sane woman would do, go to another party in the hope of having sex with George Clooney. Not wanting to keep George waiting by getting a taxi she decides to head down to the Underground. Unfortunately she dozes ...
...One of the huge advantages Creep has is its setting. The London Underground isn't the nicest of places to be in the day let alone when you're on your own there at night. Then there are all the myths about the 'sewer people' that live down there and kidnap people to have a quick snack. It all makes for lovely horror setting material, dark, dank and with a past. It also helps to set it in a place where many people go to, not an old mansion on top of ...

The dog gave an outstanding performance....

Advantages: Slightly different to your usual slasher film
Disadvantages: Didn't go into enough detail about the more interesting aspects of the plot

OK this was never going to be amazing. I didn't get to see it at the cinema as I'm sure there were probably better films out at the time. I bought this DVD because its Halloween weekend, I'm too old to go Trick or Treating and I wanted a cheap, uncomplicated throw away horror. I got what I wanted. The film begins in the sewer system. Two men, one who seems to have a strange love for, erm, tunnels and the other who is on community service are wondering ...
...The tunnel lover is obviously extremely excited to come across an opening to a tunnel that he hasn't been down in his twenty years on the job. Now this is a slasher film so of course he goes down the dark tunnel ALONE. George, the guy on community service (Vas Blackwood - Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels), has to go in after him and the film begins. Our 'heroine' is Kate (Franka Potente - Bourne Identity / Blow), the selfish rich girl who is on ...

Creep Enduces Sleep

Advantages: It's only 75-minutes
Disadvantages: It's lame, poorly executed, average extras

...paper I've no doubt that Creep sounded like a decent idea that would get people into the cinema. But the final product is executed poorly and must go down as an opportunity missed. Kate is a woman who leaves a party on a quest to meet George Clooney at a club in London. She makes her journey across the city by taking the London underground. Sadly the affects of alcohol send her to sleep on the platform. She awakes to find the place deserted, the ...
...nightmare. The thing with Creep is that it's unbelievably stupid and at times amateurish. For a horror film it's pretty devoid of any real scares. Instead it relies on throwing in some nasty gore that just comes across as unpleasant and unnecessary. This is also a film doesn't offer anything new. The idea of being trapped in the underground with a crazed killer could have given some stellar moments of horror. But there is none of this, without credits ...

Don't miss the last train home....

Advantages: great story, original concept,
Disadvantages: acting isnt fantastic

...UK theatrical trailer. Creep is currently available for £4.99 at HMV. All in all, a good horror film. It does what it's meant to; it scares! The actors are rubbish but luckily enough their parts don't demand much acting, they all succeed in looking petrified which is really the only emotion needed in this film. A good story, an original concept and the 'creep' will strangely get the watchers sympathy once you understand his background and the hell ...

...like my horror films!). There were a couple of things I liked. I do like cinema verite style in films - to give it a sense of realism - there was some good examples of this, especially with some classic hand held camera work running down corridors - loving the use of vanishing points. There was also a sense of the film being over-exposed and over-saturated at points - this detracted from the realism but worked in places. I was just simply disappointed. ...

Horrific!! But In The Worst Possible Way

Advantages: Memorable end
Disadvantages: Terrible, terrible story, plot, acting and direction.

Just to get off on the right footing Zombie Creeping Flesh as it is known in the UK is a rather ridiculous title given to the movie in a hope to cash in on the success of Lucio Fulci's Zombie Flesh Eaters (itself a victim of a different name in the UK). The movies correct title is Hell Of The Living Dead and for the duration of this review this is the name I'll refer to the movie as. Of all the Italian Zombie movies Hell Of The Living Dead ultimately has the worst reputation, it has a disjointed storyline and some at times ridiculous action/horror sequences. It also suffers from some of the worst dubbing I've ever seen which probably hinders the movie in terms of reputation. Like many movies the original Italian score is incredibly difficult to find, and when you do find it English subtitles are not available. On the plus side gore ...

Review of Zombie Creeping Flesh (DVD)

Do you believe in Evil...?

Advantages: Cushing and Lee at the height of their horrific powers. Splendid story. Excellent direction.
Disadvantages: The creature when fully revealed, but isn't on screen that long anyway.

and the 'supernatural' has always been a winning formula and THE CREEPING FLESH uses this to the full. Pictures with a similar theme include; The Mummy (1959), The Blood Beast Terror (1967), Quatermass and the Pit (1967) but the film that most closely resembles THE CREEPING FLESH is Horror Express (1971) which also starred Cushing and Lee. Peter Cushing is heart-breakingly fragile as Emmanuel Hildern, much of this emotion perhaps deriving from the recent death of his own wife, Helen. In contrast you feel nothing for Christopher Lee, as James Hildern, who is ruthless and conniving. a thoroughly disagreeable chap indeed. Cushing and Lee always worked better when they were opposing forces rather than when they were on the same side. If you have never seen a British gothic horror film this would be a wonderful introduction to the genre. If you are ...

Enjoyable

Advantages: Special effects. Enjoyable film
Disadvantages: Script & storyline weak in places, Dobby not as good as he could be

The big screen adaption of JK Rowlings second Harry Potter is once again directed by Chris Columbus; a director whom for me failed to deliver fully on the magic on the first film. Whilst this film is a significant improvement, it does not fully deliver on all the magic of the Harry Potter books. The acting of young Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson as Harry, Ron and Hermione is much improved. There are some weak points - some elements of woodeness here and there, but overall the acting is exceptional. The special effects themselves are a little mixed. Dobby lacks the grace and beauty of Lord of the Rings "Gollum" which really set the standard. But generally, again, the special effects were spot on - that snake still gives me the creeps. The DVD comes with a whole heap of extras - some of which are only suitable ...
