However, paying £1.49 I didn't expect much, and with a tagline of: ''It's potentially dangerous, probably illegal and definitely crazy.'' and a front cover with the text ''He is obsessed to re-create his wife.... she died thirty years ago'' I thought it would be amusing, something to watch for a cheap price!

----HOW I CAME ACROSS THE FILM AND FIRST IMPRESSIONS------ I bought this film for £1.49 from The Works as part of a 3 for 2 offer on DVD's, many of them being awfully painfully bad.
It definitely seems very 80's and I would say this is what lets it down, some parts make it appear tacky but overall I liked it and I think that once you get past the fact that it only cost £1.49 and seems really cheap it does have some great characters and a good storyline that runs smoothly without any hiccups.
----FAVOURITE QUOTES------- Meli and Harry talking in the buffet queue at the party: Meli: I really mean it, Dr Wolper. I want us to get married. Harry: Meli… You still call me "Dr Wolper"!? Meli: So? What is that supposed to mean? When I met you, you were Dr Wolper, and that's the way I got to know you. So don't go making any big god damn deal out of that. I'm just a formal-type person. If I were sleeping with the king of France I'd say: 'That was very nice sex Your Highness, thank you for banging me Your Majesty'
Boris talking to Harry: Boris: Love is dead Harry Harry: How depressing, never mind Boris. Women's liberation will run its course and we will prevail.
----PLOT---- The plot is the story of a crazy scientist Harry (O'Toole) whose mission is to recreate his wife from a few cells kept from her body (which might not seem so strange nowadays but in the 80's it would be!). On the mission for a 'fresh egg' to implant the cells and with help from his Graduate Student 'Boris' (Vincent Spano) his obsession turns to love, to help for Boris, and extreme rivalry with his colleague Sid.
Boris finds love with another student and without Harry, Boris' love Barbara will die.
A very strange story that goes through turmoil including acts from Mariel Hemingway and Virginia Madsen.
-----SETTING----- Set in America, English legendary scientist Harry plots to recreate his wife who is literally obsessed with.
-----MAIN CHARACTERS------ ~~Harry - Peter O'Toole is hilarious and in a way you kind of find yourself wanting to be like him, he has a cigar on the go constantly and its huge!!! He rides his bike to work and doesn't really care - he's laid back and although he dresses smartly his clothes clash. However I think he's cool to be fair! His determination to recreate his wife leads him to find someone else. He doesn't care about the university funds and quietly sneaks away equipment to his lab at home.
~~Boris - Vincent Spano Graduate Student assigned to work with one of Harry's colleagues but Harry grabs him and forces him to help him out. Falling for another student Boris finds true love. His character played extremely well and he appears to be a bit of a geek in a weird kind of way but eventually turns to be the hero. You fall for him and feel his emotions - a great character.
~~Meli - Mariel Hemingway Unsure of whether she's pregnant, Harry takes advantage of the emotional wreck by helping her out in exchange for a 'fresh egg' to base his experiment on. She's sex crazed and falling for Harry. Plays in the local American Football team, No shame or dignity and not afraid to show…. Anything?!
~~Barbara - Virginia Madsen Falls for Boris after he chases her for a bit. Another student working in the labs. A quiet geeky character turning out to be the centre of Boris and Harry's problems and needs help.. Fast.
~~Sid - David Ogden Steirs Harry's colleague who plays by the rules but is determined to find out what's in Harry's shed and what's going on. A bit of a bad guy and tries to get Boris on his side - big boisterous man…. Scary!
-----MY VIEW---- To be honest for £1.49 I really enjoyed this film, it has quite a bit of sex references and bad language but it is a 15. There are loads of romantic moments, things which make you sad too but overall there is a hell of a lot of comedy within and I found myself thinking how much of a legend Peter O'Toole is in it, his character is legendary and there are some great scenes, even special effects for its time. I liked the film for its mixture of genres a light comedy with loads of different references to all kinds of everyday things. A different film for a good price, the tagline has to say it all! There's some good characters in the film that enable to film to be bursting with personality and great scenes and full of one-liners! Some great quotes to say the least. Each characters finding their destiny and learning throughout.
-----RECOMMENDATION---- To recommend this film is for anyone who wants something light to watch with a great mix of emotions along with a good cast line up. Cheap price. Bad tagline that does catch you're attention. Great for a bit of fun. Like I said - look out for the one-liners - they have to be the best bits about it! I was very impressed with this film and hadn't heard of it before. Its certainly different and some good effects for its age along with a good plot and storyline with comedy filling in a lot of gaps. Some good acting going on and the characters are each to their own. A very good film for anyone. Seems to be packed full of story. Some sex, romance, comedy, bad language, nudity! Thumbs up - it's a good one.
Advantages: Funny episodes, great characters Disadvantages: None
American Dad - Volume 2 is the second DVD boxset from the creator of Family Guy, Seth McFarlane. It was released here on the 28th May 2007.
This set comprises of the last ten episodes of the first season and the first 9 episodes from season two, from "Stannie Get Your Gun" to "The Best Christmas Story Never". Quite why they're releasing sets like this is anybody's guess, I don't know why they just don't do what everyone else does and release one DVD boxset for one season, another one for the next season etc. To me what they're doing is pointless and complicates things.
Episodes to look for include "The Best Christmas Story Never" where the ghost of Christmas past visits Stan and tries to show him the true meaning of the festive season, Stan however thinks Christmas will be better if he changes the future by killing Jane Fonda, "Of Ice ...

I was so happy when RDF Media (creators of Wife Swap, no less!) decided to release this BBC3 program on DVD because Anthea made such a great comeback with this show.
In a bid to rival Kim and Aggie's "How clean is your house?" Anthea has two "hopeless housewives!" fight for the crown (literally-it is presented at the end of the show) by cleaning up their dirty messy homes (dont you just love noseying around other people's houses?!).
This DVD is simply perfect if you are unmotivated to clean, struggle with keeping up with the housework or just want to watch some entertaining and occasionally very funny TV. I find this show so inspiring...just seeing Anthea's massive and pristine country home makes me want to clean! Highly recommended. ...
Advantages: Funny, Classic Tv Show Disadvantages: Can be cheaper to buy sepeartely
This as usual is a brilliant dvd from the creators of friends although if your hoping to collect the who collection it could be cheaper to buy it as one set and it may also seem as though you are more of a serious collector, Although this may be a fairly old dvd is does not repuet on quality. Its still as ilarious as friends ever was. Obviously its a fantastic DVD and thoroughly worth having, but as a collection of Friends episodes it is still outstanding. Even more creative and amusing scenarios and a traditionally heightening atmosphere of comic and dramatic tension at the end of a series make it a real treat. Bruce Willis honours the usual collection of talented faces. ...
