Crash is the story of a number of people who all live in LA; a Korean couple, a District Attorney and his wife(both white), two detectives (1 white,1 black) a director and his wife (both black), a Mexican locksmith and his family, a Persian shop owner, two policemen (both white), and two car jackers (both black). I've only listed their race above as it is central to the plot and each and every story in the film.
And the moral of the story is.....Don't judge a book by its cover!
Crash starts at a crime scene, a Korean woman has just driven into the back of a detective's car at the crime scene, we are shown the yellow police tape but little more at this point.
The film then follows the life and trials of the characters for 24 hours prior to the crash and the prejudices each and every one of them has. From the DA's wife automatically thinking any black man is about to rob her to the black carjacker who thinks he is above the law and holier than thou as he only steals from white people...their logic is astounding!
All the events happen in just 36 hours.
This film is about racism, but not just the normal white people against black; this deals with far more complex beliefs than that and shows everyone is as bad as each other in a way!
Crash shows that everyone has both a good and a bad side. The rooky cop who takes the law into his own hands is also nursing his sick father, the perfect socialite wife of the DA who takes out her racist frustrations on her housekeeper, the Persian shopkeeper who is there for his family but just as easily nearly wipes out somebody elses. Unpredictable, edge of your seat stuff.
I've just remembered the hilarious scene when the carjackers knock over a chinese man...I know that doesn't sound funny but trust me you will be crying with laughter. The only light hearted bit of the film really!
Crash delves deep into the twisted beliefs of many; it shows how multi-cultural societies may on the outside appear to live in harmony though behind closed doors it is alarmingly different.
The film ends where it started and all those questions you had initially are answered. Expect twists and turns and to be shocked by the human race. Just don't look away for a second as you are likely to lose the plot. Complex Crash!

Crash won three Oscars in 2006; Best achievement in editing, Best writing and Best motion picture of the year.
The Cast --- --- --- --- --- --- Their are some big names in this film; Sandra Bullock, Thandie Newton, Ryan Phillipe, Matt Dillon, Brendan Fraser all star. The acting is what makes this film, every performance is perfect and they capture the essence of their characters flawlessly.
