Another day,another Jet Li & a rapper movie. Cradle 2 the Grave, the latest from 'Director' Andrzej Bartkowiak, stars Jet Li & DMX-with the ultra cool Mark Dacascos (Brotherhood of the Wolf) on bad guy duties.
The basic plot is this-DMX is an improbable robber-only stealing from bad guys(?!), is a doting dad (with standard butter wouldn't melt cute kid daughter). We first see him doing a high tech robbery & stealing some 'black diamonds'-which agent Jet Li is also after.
Trouble is, they are the property of ultra bad guy Mark Dacascos,who then looks up the bad guy manual & kidnaps DMX's daughter to get them back. Naturally, the two team up to stop bad boy Dacascos-running into the always annoying Tom Arnold-as one of DMX's contacts-along the way.
As it turns out, the back diamonds are a dodgy power source for nuclear weapons and-shocker-Jet Li has a 'history' with our villain!!
The action in this movie should really be first class-how can it not be with two highly skilled martial artists-and yet, I found myself struggling to watch the increasingly banal fight scenes as the film went on.
Having a lead actor with zero talent & charisma can't help-but that's exactly what they have in the shape of DMX. The guy is actually in the film MORE than Jet Li,has more action scenes and yet,is about as talented as,shocker,co-star Tom Arnold!
I'm trying very hard to bite my tongue on the treatment of Mark Dacascos too-very underrated-but what can I expect when he signs for crap like this? As for Jet Li, well, after watching this, I have to wonder wether the movie is meant as a vehicle for him, or for DMX, seeing as DMX hogs all the screen time.
I'm sure this no brain trash will appeal to some folk-Tom Arnold maybe-but to see talent (at least from 3 cast members-work out the third) wasted like this seems criminal to me-better off watching Brotherhood of the Wolf,X2 & Black Mask to see what these people can REALLY do!
