Hello people, I am writing my review based on the film "Coyote Ugly", it was released back in 2000 and directed by David McNelly and written by Gina Wendkos. What is Coyote Ugly I hear you ask well… it is… "Did you ever wake up sober after a one night stand, and the person you're next to is lying on your arm, and they're so ugly, you'd rather chew off your arm then risk waking 'em? That's coyote ugly." It is a brilliant film for anyone male or female, it is a good film that has to be seen even if it is just once!! The film actually won 4 awards and was nominated for another 4 awards. It is on for about an hour and half and is rated a PG.
Basic Storyline
Violet is an aspiring song writer, she is in her early 20's and heads to New York City leaving her father Bill behind, to become successful and earn some money in order to have an apartment and get the equipment needed she heads into New York City to find a job…where she is in a café and over hears some coyotes talking about one of them leaving (Zoe), so Violet heads down to the bar called "Coyote Ugly" and meets this women not knowing she is the owner, Violets gets a bit of attitude and has a go at the lady, Violet gets offered a trail…she did not realise what
the job description actually is!! She arrives on her first evening and rips her top, Coyote ugly is quite the hot spot bar and is always packed out, the barmaids give quite an impression on the men especially when they get up on the bar and start dancing…Thing is with the bar you can NEVER ORDER WATER other wise you will get hosed down!! Violet makes friends with Kevin, a love interest I must add who attempts to help her but does his efforts pay off?? Violets father sees his daughters picture in the paper and is not at all impressed as you can imagine if you are a father and seeing your daughter up on a bar but in Violets defence she is just earning some money and doing what she enjoys singing songs but not her own!! Does she make it in the big city??
Main Characters In Film
Piper Perabo - Violet / The Jersey Nun (Nickname in the bar) Izabella Miko - Cammie / The Russian Tease (nickname in bar) Bridget Moynahan - Rachel / The New York Bitch (nickname in bar) Maria Bello - Lil (the bars owner) Tyra Banks - Zoe (the ex coyote) Adam Garcia - Kevin O'Donnell John Goodmen - Bill (Violets Father)
Favourite Quotes
This is a classic quote which shows you exactly how Cammie is the typical blonde stereotype… Cammie: I'm Cammie, the Russian tease. Violet: Violet, the Jersey nun. Cammie: We all play our little parts. That one's Rachel, the New York bitch. Only Rachel really is a bitch, and I really am a tease. Lil: Cammie, you can only be a tease if you stop sleepin' around, babe. Cammie: Yeah, I keep forgetting that part!
My Opinion
I thought the film was really good, I enjoyed it, its one of those movies that you kind of have to like, there is nothing you can say bad about the film to be honest, it is really well set out and scripted 10/10 I would give! Violets character however is quite shy to begin with but you see her come more and more out of her shell which adds some excitement to the film. They have nicknames for each other and roles in the film to excite the men, they dance on the bar and splash water over each other and do sexy dances…which Violets character actually adapts to. Kevin who befriend Violet ends up being "auctioned" off when Violet happens to soak a man with water not knowing who he is and Lil is left with a bill which she states that if Violet wants to last another night she has to pay the money back…the auction is a really big hit as well, very funny!! Cammie's character is more slutty to be honest, she wears practically nothing and has to take Violet on a shopping trip…which is quite funny as there dress senses are so different in so many ways!! Cammie is kind of the typical blonde stereotype she just isn't all there and her comments are very funny!! Zoe is the coyote that we see leave in the beginning but she does come back for one last night on the bar which is when Violets father walks into the bar OUCH!! Now Rachel's character well she has anger issues and takes her anger out in different ways even by cutting off a mans ponytail…She is one not to mess with and she makes that clear from the start…Lil the manager well…she is one tough cookie, her bar is her home, her life, her everything. Leann Rimes also has an appearance in this movie as its her song that is sang "Cant Fight The Moonlight". It is a really good film with so many funny moments. There is so much romance with Kevin and Violet you cant help thinking will they…wont they…there are twists with there relationship!!
Cant Fight The Moonlight
The song "Cant Fight the Moonlight" which Leann Rimes actually sang and released was written by Diane Warren and was written for the film itself. It did reach number ONE in the UK charts in 2000, and is on Leann Rimes Album "I Need You" which was released also in 2000.
Would I recommend
I definitely would recommend seeing this film, the lads will love it especially for the bar dances hehe!! It is a good romantic comedy, I couldn't say that it was a chick flick as I do feel that it can be watched by either gender! Thanks for reading Mell (June 2008)

Advantages: Adam Garcia, definately. Oh, and a vibrant setting and cast. Disadvantages: Crony story, sickly sweet star - but it improves so is quite bearable
