Bette Davis- Screen Legend

Advantages: All About Eve is an absolute classic of the era
Disadvantages: A strange mismatched boxed set im my opinion

So here we find a strange set of three films in the 'classic box set' series by Fox. The name Fox is the only thing these films have to tie them together, other that the awe-inspiring work of Bette Davis- on of cinemas true greats. The first film is a true gem, the pinnacle of the career of Bette Davis which spanned some 60 years. Having left Warner Brothers in late 1949 some thought the career of Davis to be over, but then Claudette Colbert injured her spine and Davis was offered the role of Margo Channing in 'All About Eve'. It was that change of events that led to, what I believe, is one of the greatest female performances in a movie to date. Davis plays Margo- an aging, forty something actress, who has success, but also has insecurities. She has a younger 'thirty something' boyfriend Bill Sampson (Gary Merrill), a loyal friend ...

Bette Midler - Beaches Soundtrack

Advantages: It's Bette Midler!, nice to sit on sofa with hot chocolate
Disadvantages: some people might find it a bit depressing - personal taste!

This CD is the soundtrack to the awesome 1991 film 'Beaches', which starred Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey. It is a story about two of the bestest friends, they're friends for life, and face many trials and difficulties during their lives - which they help each other with. They argue too, of course. The music comprises of some original material written for the film, such as Oh Industry and The Glory Of Love, and some old favourites - like Wind Beneath My Wings and Bette's cover of Under The Boardwalk. HIGHLIGHTS: Wind Beneath My Wings, The Glory Of Love, I Think It's Gonna Rain Today LOWLIGHTS: I Know You By Heart Track 1 - Under The Boardwalk - Bette's cover of Under The Boardwalk is awesome. It's slower, more synthy, and more Midlery. It shows off her voice very well. I like it! And one of the bits I love, it begins ...

My Cousin Rachel

Advantages: Suspense, suspense, suspense
Disadvantages: Can't think of any!

Ambrose, Philip's guardian since the loss of both parents at an early age, travels abroad to Italy for the sake of his health where he meets, falls in love with and marries "my cousin Rachel". Months later, Philip receives a disturbing letter from Ambrose concerning the state of his health, which also hints at Rachel's involvement in his illness. On travelling to Italy to investigate, Philip finds Ambrose dead, and Rachael has departed. Philip returns to England to take up residence in the estate which he has now inherited from Ambrose. Shortly thereafter Rachel invites herself to come and stay with Philip in the house which she would have shared with Ambrose had he lived. Philip accepts, with the intention that he will question Rachel on her involvement in Ambrose's death and mete out her punishment accordingly. However ...
