Coupling is, in my opinion, one of the best British comedies around. It is often said to be the British version of Friends. I can see where this idea comes from - both are about the lives of a group of young people and especially their relationships. However, even if you don't like Friends you really have to try Coupling. It is just so much funnier!
The 6 characters in Series 2 are Steve Taylor, Susan Walker, Patrick Maitland, Sally Harper, Jeff Murdock and Jane Christie (the same as series 1 and 3 but not 4). The genius is the way the characters exhibit such real traits and do the most human of things, while managing to get themselves into such unbelievably absurd situations. A classic example of this occurs in the first episode on this DVD - The Man With Two Legs. Here Jeff manages to accidentally tell a woman he fancies that he has a wooden leg! If you've never seen Coupling you are probably thinking how stupid this is. Believe me, you have to watch the episode to see just how easy a mistake this is to make.
I won't spoil the experience by describing the other episodes but I will let you know a little about them. They are titled as follows:
1. The Man With Two Legs 2. My Dinner In Hell 3. The Melty Man Cometh 4. Jane and the Truth Snake 5. Gotch 6. Dressed 7. Naked 8. The End of the Line
This gives 8 30 minute episodes of hilarity and the DVD also includes some extra interviews and behind the scenes footage. Admittedly I thought the extras were not much to write home about, but it's the actual episodes you want! They come on two DVDs in one case. In theory this should cost £19.99 but at the time of writing it is available for £6.99 from play.com. Go on - you know you want to!
