Dare, The Vampire Lovers), rules with a rod of iron alongside her lover, Captain Dobi (Nigel Green - Zulu, The Ipcress File). Fictionalized "biography" of " Hungarian serial killer Erzsebet Bathory (1560-1614) , "Transylvanian Vampire Countess" who supposedly bathed in virgin blood to keep her youth and beauty. Impressive sets, gorgeous dresses and strong but natural colours of 1970īs Hammer are laced with deliciously vampiric blood-baths-really-work-overtones. Despite the slightly static story, this is another Hammer classic with the lovely "Hungarian" music being the icing of the cake. Interestingly (and mercifully!) Countess is transformed from the sexual sadist to the old, cruel period mistress searching for love and better looks. "I prefer you as you really are, not parading yourself like some jaded young slut from the whorehouse!"
