After watching Cool Runnings for the first time I couldn't stop laughing for hours afterwards, it's such a funny funny film. Based on a true story, Cool Runnings tells the story of the first ever Jamaican bobsleigh team and their efforts to win a medal at the Calgary Olympics in Canada. The film stars a number of well known faces, including the late John Candy as the down on his luck bobsleigh coach and Doug E Doug, who for me is the funniest character in the film, playing Sanka Coffie, one of the bobsleighers. After the Jamaican athlete Derice Bannock (played by Leon) is disqualified in an important race (due to an unfortunate and rather entertaining accident), he decides to turn his hand to bobsleighing. After persuading his friends to enter (with much reluctance), Derice meets troubled coach Irving Blitzer (played by Candy), and convinces him to coach their team. The team then spend weeks and weeks practising, and falling on their backsides, until they're up to standard, after which time they finally get their dream of going to the Olympics to not only compete, but have a chance of winning.
The film has a lot of comedy, but also a lot of heart, which is only right for a Disney film. The jokes, particularly when the team are training in Jamaica, are very funny, and the situation comedy brilliant. The best part of the film for me is when the team, in t-shirts and shorts, arrive in Canada, not realising how cold it is. I also love the banter between the four bobsleighers, particularly during the opening of the film where they're all reluctant to agree with Derice's idea of forming a bobsleigh team. The film also has a very Disney-esque meaning to it, this being not to judge people on their origin and race. Thankfully this message is not too heavy handed, but is clearly implied throughout the film. In the end, they become winners without winning the game. Cool Runnings was a success at the box office, and is one of John Candy's most remembered films, along with Planes, Trains and Automobiles. It's a good little film to watch on a rainy afternoon, and will definately brighten your day.

Good, concise review but maybe you gave away the ending?
