well, what can i say? This is my favourite film of ALL TIME! The film itself is based around a group of three jamaican sprinters who go for trials to see who will run for their country in the olympics. HOWEVER, due to no fault of their own Derice and Euell are tripped over in the trials by none other than the shortest runner of them all, Junior. Derice realises that there is no chance of the race being replayed for it wouldnt be fair on the runners who had just qualified so he realises he must get to the olympics some other way. Derice confides in his best friend Sanka, the champion pushcart driver to try and persuade their prospective coach (played by John Candy) to hold trials for the first jamaican bobsled team. After a meeting was held for jamaicans who were interested in being part of the first ever jamaican bobsled team they were scared off by the dangers after watching a slideshow presentation. Just when Derice and Sanka thought their olympic dreams were dead, none other than Euell Brennan and Junior (the runner who tripped Derice and Euell) turned up. Once Euell claps his eyes on Junior then all hell breaks lose and is quite worrying because Euell is nearly twice the size of Junior! Eventually, having coming together as a team, whether it was practising in old pig troughs being pushed down hills or sticking up for eachother in the big fight against the Swiss team while Sanka's enjoying himself line dancing. Everyone thought that Jamaica were an absolute joke at the beginning of the film but as time went on Jamaica proved themselves to be worthy of a place in the olympics and done themselves proud. Although they didnt do very well in the final afetr having a massive accident while tuning a bend, they all escaped unhurt and were applauded all the way to the finish line by the other competitors and spectators as they carried their bobsled. Cool Runnings is a very touching film, based on a true story but it has got to be the most hilarious film i have ever seen. You can never see it enough times to be quite honest! the story line maybe doesnt sound much but you should give it a chance, the first twenty minutes of it will crack you up, just as much as the rest of it! Not only is the film of superb qualtiy but the songs featured in the films are brilliant too such as 'rise above it' and 'wild wild life'
