Advantages: Funny, well written, good effects. Disadvantages: The music is a slight giveaway as to what's going to happen sometimes and lessens the surprise.
When I saw the advert for this film, I was skeptical. As a rule through previous experience, I'm not someone that enjoys gore and horror movies. I watched Shaun of the Dead when I was 12 and was never the same afterwards! But the past 8 years must've aged me somewhat. A friend asked me to go and see it with them, so I put on a brave face and paid the £5 for the ticket, and I was blown away! It was more than worth it! The basic storyline is explained ... ...do when the country, possibly the whole universe, has been struck by a virus that is slowly but surely turning the whole nation in carnivorous zombies? Whilst the zombies are eerie-looking creatures with detached limbs, blood-dripping orifices and an insatiable need for human blood, there something slightly humorous about seeing Woody Harrilson driving along in a 4x4, hitting zombies and taking great pleasure in reversing over them to ensure their ...
Advantages: The unique style of the film, with many comic twists and turns. Disadvantages: The price. I'm sure it will shrink over time, though.
A must for anybody interested in the lolita fashion or Japanese pop culture in general. I also recommend the book.
The film is hilarious - from as soon as it starts until the very end, with an interesting storyline and good costumes. However, this is not just a comedy. It also contains some sad and thought-provoking moments - there's something for everyone!
The film is subbed, not dubbed which is good for someone like me, who thinks most dubs are ... ...have to squint at the screen - but not so big that they obstruct the action, and they are closer to the actual Japanese than out subtitled films I have had the misfortune to watch. Still, as with any subbed film I would I wouldn't recommend it if you're a slow reader or just prefer to hear the characters speak English.
My mum watched this with me and didn't really enjoy it, therefore I'd recommend it perhaps for a young adult/teenage audience.

...change opinions. His unfinished masterpiece California Dreamin' was his last film before a fatal car crash in 2006. It won the Prix un certain regard at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.
California Dreamin' takes place in Romania, and is based on a true story. In 1999, during the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia, a train containing American radar equipment required in Kosovo goes through Romania and is held up for several days in a small village on the Bărăgan ... ...customs papers are missing.
Since the train is occupied by American soldiers, the village folk make an effort to welcome the visitors, while the station manager, who has a grudge against America, holds up the train. The reason being that Russian soldiers took his parents away (for being German supporters) at the end of World War 2 and he had hoped the Americans would arrive, which never happened. So, by holding the train on some bureaucratic pretext ...
Advantages: Excellent film maker Disadvantages: Not everyones vibe
...like Lars Von Trier but the Danish director and pioneer of the controversial ‘Dogme’ School of film making is definitely not everybody’s cup of tea, but does make for some interesting and quirky movie making, The Idiots being one. The more of these guys in the business the better if you ask me. Yes he’s made some pretentious piles of avant-guard poo poo in his time, none more so than Dogville, a ghastly minimalist piece of nonsense that some serious ... ...I guarantee you will love The Boss of it All, exactly what Northern European movie making is all about. The quirkiness of his style is why you rent LVT, this one bang on the button and encapsulating his genius. In the extras he claims his movie is shot with camera technique called ‘Automavision’, an innovation in which the camera angles and movements are selected by a computer, the director proclaiming it’s “a principle for shooting film developed ...
Advantages: Colourful, quirky Disadvantages: Sexually controversial, sometimes anti-women
Pepi is visited by a police officer who lives opposite and has noticed that she is growing pot on her window-ledge. In return for his silence, she offers sex, which he takes rather too literally, forcing himself upon her. Pepi vows revenge, but her first attempt - asking friends to beat him up - fails when it turns out it is the police officer's twin brother. She then seeks revenge in another way - persuading his wife, Luci, to leave him for the ... ...Bom, Luci is finally able to fulfill her sexual fantasies...or so it seems. Will Luci stay with Bom or return to her husband? And will Pepi ever be content with her revenge? Carmen Maura plays Pepi in what is Almodovar's first commercial success made back in 1980. Maura is an Almodovar favourite, and I have already seen her in a couple of his films. Here, she looks incredibly young, and it is good to see her like this. At the beginning of the film, ...
