Amelie
Advantages: all around amazing, entertaining, well thought out Disadvantages: nothing
I think that this is probably the best movie I have ever seen. Not only is the story completely terrific, but the filming is great as well! I love the effect put on the filming throughout the whole movie. I love the concept of this story. It reminds me that happiness in life depends on how you live your life, how to look at it, and how you try to improve, not only your own life, but others' as well. Every character in this movie is well thought out ... ...only is this a completely fulfilling and touching movie, it also has quite a bit of humour in it. I have zero bad things to say about this movie. I love everything about it, and I'm sure anyone who watches it will too. While watching this movie, it will help if you are a good reader or if you speak French, as the film is in French and unless you speak it you'll have to read subtitles. If that's not a problem for you, then I'm sure you'll adore this ...

The Edukators-excellent depiction of modern rebellion
Advantages: Well thought out, interesting ideas Disadvantages: Occasionally a little predictable
...Hans Weingartner and nominated for the 2004 Golden Palm award at Cannes film festival, The Edukators is a German-Austrian film set in contemporary Berlin. Focusing on the lives of 3 young activists, Jule (Julia Jentsch), her boyfriend Peter (Stipe Erceg) and his morally righteous best-friend Jan (Daniel Bruehl, of Good Bye Lenin fame), the story unfolds in two directions. The film opens with a obviously wealthy family returning to their house to ... ...fetten Jahre sind vorbei (literally; the fat years are over meaning the days of plenty are numbered and the title of the original German release), signed the Edukators. Through the films development it is realised that Jan and Peter are responsible for this as they undertake nighttime missions to 'educate' the rich. They break into houses but never steal leaving notes for the owners to let them know they have too much money. The film turns when peter ...

The idiots
Advantages: Getting to hear danish Disadvantages: The characters are superficial, a useless twist, arty-farty directing.
...it was von Trier's master-piece, the quintessence of the dogma-95 movement. This movement was created in 95 by a bunch of scandinavians (including Lars Von Trier) and has a certain set of rules that every director must abide to in order to be accepted in the elitist movement. So the camera must be hand-held only, no music, no murder, etc... Personally I think this movement is quite silly but after all I've only seen one of its fruits.
Moving on ... ...more of a comedy at the beginning but becomes an emotional over the top drama. The main character Karen becomes involved in the group without really having a choice and decided to stay with them and join in all the FUN! She says she's happy but I doubt that in real life anybody would be really happy in such a situation. Anyway, at the end the leader of the group looses it and gets obsessed with their hobby. He challenges everybody to go back to their ...

Will he ever leave?
Advantages: funny, great acting Disadvantages: none
I watched Tanguy on DVD yesterday and I just loved it. It is definitely one of my favourite French movies. I am a huge fan of Etienne Chatillez and I just love all the films he made: La vie est un long fleuve tranquille, Tatie Danielle, Le bonheur est dans le pre (sorry I have put the French titles but I am not quite sure of the English titles).
+++ The plot:
Tanguy (Eric Berger) is 28 and still lives with his parents. If he is really happy with ... ...campaign, they meet a stonewall: Tanguy is a major specialist of traditional Chinese thought, and he faces everything with the self-control that a Chinese sage would envy. When Edith and Paul realise he doesn't want to move out they rent him a small studio but Tanguy start having panic attack and has to go to hospital. It gets so bad that he moves back in with his parents.
His father gets really fed up with him and throws him out. Tanguy decides ...

Hamming it up in Spain
Advantages: Entertaining, amusing Disadvantages: Some won't see the point
Silvia, the daughter of the local whore, works in a factory making shorts, but hopes to improve her living standards (and shoe collection) by marrying the son of the factory's owner, Jose Luis. When she finds herself pregnant, Jose Luis does indeed ask her to marry him...the only problem is his parents, who disapprove. His mother hires a part-time model, Raul, to get to know Silvia and steal her away from Jose Luis. But then both Silvia and Jose ... ...good for any of them. Who will win the battle for Raul? And what will happen to Jose Luis and his unborn child? I have wanted to see this film for quite some time; not because I have any particular affiliation to Spain, but because the film sounded interesting and a bit different. Directed by Bigas Luna, it takes a look at a slice of Spanish life in a backwater town where anything seems to go. I was not disappointed by this film. It will not be everyone's ...
