A bit of a damp squib
Review of That Riviera Touch DVD by
grafter123
Advantages: Eric and Ernie, some funny moments.
Disadvantages: Very dated, average British 1960s comedy
...for the big screen and That Riviera Touch was one of these films. Eric had heart problems in middle age and died whilst performing on stage on 28th May 1984 at the age of 58. Ernie carried on his career in comedy with appearances on chat shows and quiz programmes but, as the straight man of the comedy duo, never quite succeeded after Eric's death. Despite this the public still enjoyed seeing him on television and he died on March 21st, 1999, at the ... ...become classic, British comedy.
THAT RIVIERA TOUCH.
I remember watching this film back in the sixties and seventies and enjoying it. So much so that seeing it advertised for Saturday afternoon TV I thought I would put my feet up and give it a whirl. Well I do not know if it is just that my taste and the times have changed, or what, but it was certainly a silly film and not really very funny at all.
The film was released in 1966 and starts with ...

Any Old Iron
Review of Steptoe And Son / Steptoe And Son Ride Again DVD by
grafter123
Advantages: Classic British Comedy, good cast, funny in parts
Disadvantages: Dated, not as good as the series
STEPTOE AND SON THE SERIES.
Steptoe and Son was a British Comedy series which came to our television screens way back in 1962. It was written by Ray Galton and Alan Simpson, initially as a comedy playhouse special, and was destined to become classic, British, comedy entertainment. Early episodes were filmed in Black and White which seemed so very fitting. It helped to portray the dinginess of the Steptoe household and their day to day life perfectly. ... ...as a boxed set.
STEPTOE AND SON
Steptoe and Son was originally released in 1972. Young Harold never seems to be able to keep a girlfriend. If things are going well for him his father will soon put a spanner in the works. So when Harold seems to attract a very attractive young woman during a night out things are destined to be anything but smooth. It turns out that the lovely Zita is actually the football clubs evening entertainment as she ...

American Dreams, Dreams with a zzzzzzzzz.........
Review of American Dreamz DVD by
pink_champagne
Advantages: Hugh Grant is nice to look at
Disadvantages: Everything else
American Dreamz is the sort of movie that could potentially be very funny. Note that word potentially. Directed by Paul Weitz who also directed About a Boy and American Pie, this movie is set around a popular American reality TV show. I saw the trailers for this and thought it looked good, but I never seem to get round to seeing things at the cinema and ended up getting this on DVD instead.
~The Plot~
The story revolves around the biggest TV show ... ...is overheard singing by the American Dreamz crew. The President of the United States (Dennis Quaid) is due to be a judge on the final night of the show, and Omer's leaders have sinister plans for him. What will happen to the president? And who will win American Dreamz?
~What I thought~
Well, like many films, disappointingly, the trailer shows all the best bits and the rest of the film is rubbish! The plot, as I'm sure you can tell from above, is ...

Well done BBC on a great British comedy!
Review of Gavin And Stacey - Series 1 DVD by
xamy_wx
Advantages: Hillarious, greatly written
Disadvantages: None
...month ago, having never watched Gavin and Stacey before, but I decided to give it a go! Oh my gosh I am so glad I bought it! I ended up and sitting and watching the whole series in one evening, I just couldn't turn it off! It is so so so funny, and the fits of giggles Ruth Jones' character has has me in in unreal, she is so funny! The story line is so romantic as well, in a comedic kind of way. I only wish I had watched Gavin and Stacey whilst it ...

Friends S8 Eps20-23
Review of Friends - Series 8 - Episodes 21-23 DVD by
treehill1234
Advantages: entertaining
Disadvantages: none
...you are a fan of friends you will already know that the ends of the seasons always entice you to watch the next and the end of season 8 does not disappoint. There are not many television shows that last this long but you can definitely see why why Friends has. I always watch Friends when I am down and it never fails to cheer me up. On this season finale we have the baby shower where Rachel feels worried about becoming a mum, Monica worries about ...
