Struck By The Moon
Advantages: Cher at her best Disadvantages: Out dated a little
After all this time I thought it best to write a review of some sort, so here I am. I was only 2 years old when this first came out, but I love Cher and this is one of her best movies!
A romantic farce set in New Yorks Little Italy, but totally free of the mafia, and criss crossing several couples who all seem to be effected by a huge full moon. A young widow, (Cher), accepts a proposal, but falls for her fiance's estranged brother, the loving couple ... ...his wife finds herself dinning with a man who has just been jilted by his young student, just as he was before in an incident witnessed by the young widow......
Atlthough director Norman Jewison and the films music rather overdo the amore and Italian openess. Still, there are winning performances from Cher, (Oscar winner), Nicholas cage, as the hairy ape who sweeps her off her feet, and Olympia Dukakis and Vincent Garcia as her parents.
A little ...

"I wanna be a producer..."
Advantages: Strong vocals and musical leads Disadvantages: Missing a certain sparkle
The Producers is one of those films that I've wanted to see for a long time. I can't to be honest think why this is the case but it is and so when I noticed it whilst out shopping the other day I simply had to buy it. Now I knew upon purchasing the film that I was going to be a musical style film with a good helping of humour and to be fair that is what I received. I must say however, and this is reflected in my rating of the film, that I was expecting ... ...just wasn't there. The Producers tells the story of Leo Bloom an accountant and a down on his luck producer Max Bialystock who despite Leo's initial reluctance plot a somewhat bent get rich scheme. This scheme however will only succeed if the play that they produce is a complete flop. The money they have then raised to invest in the play will be theirs and they'll be raking it in.
With this in mind the pair go on a hunt to find the worst play ever ...

The original Oceans 11!
Advantages: A simple film with lots of surprises Disadvantages: None
The story is set in the 1930's in Chicago. We see 2 men, Hooker (played by Robert Redford) and Luther (played by Robert Earl Jones) con another man. They race off with money that they have taken unaware that the money is being delivered to an illegal betting empire boss. Later Hooker meets with Luther and Luther tells Hooker that he is giving up the con game. He tells Hooker to go to an old friend, Henry (played by Paul Newman) to learn from him. ... ...Hooker runs off afraid that the killers are still around.
Hooker finds Henry and they plan to avenge Luthers death by making the biggest con of their life, swindling the betting empire boss Doyle Lonnegan (played by Robert Shaw) out of $500,000. What follows is an elaborate plan with the help of many friends. However, the police and FBI are on their tail. Will the Sting work? Or will the city's most dangerous mobster catch the boys and have the ...

How did he get it so right ?
Advantages: Mel Brook on top form Disadvantages: Availability
...to write anything more because the other two guys have wonderful taste and are more than capable of telling you just how good this film is.
But according to IMBD there’s going to be another film in 2005 called The Producers starring some of today’s rising young stars. This is sacrilege. Can you imagine anyone better than Gene Wilder? Can you imagine a young hunky muscled Adonis playing opposite Richard Prior? They’re playing with history.
But why ... ...remake it? Just re-release the original on DVD with deleted scenes, a nice feature documentary of the making and interview with Mel Brooks and sell it at an inflated cost as a special edition and you can scrape a few extra dollars out of this wonderful flick. So anyway I’ve had my rant and I want you to see this film. So I will conform to the normal confines of a review and try not to bully you all the way to the Video shop.
Perfect performances ...

Another night of hearin' myself talk, talk, talk
Advantages: Cast, script, most things really Disadvantages: A bit slow at times
Pillow Talk is a wonderful romantic comedy which has hardly aged a bit in the decades since its release. Remade a couple of years ago into the excellent Down With Love, this one can still hold its head up high (and though I personally still like the latter film more, I know that many prefer the original.) Jan Morrow (Doris Day) is a highly successful career woman, who is unfortunate in that she has to share a party phone line with playboy Brad Allen ... ...All in all, Pillow Talk is an extremely enjoyable film thanks to a witty script and an enthusiastic cast. Hudson and Day are terrific whether sparring or wooing, and their phone encounters contain some sparkling dialogue. Tony Randall as the rich wannabe husband who can't understand is very funny, particularly when taking great delight in Brad's failures (though he does turn out to be sort of a good friend in the end!) His performance is not all ...
