Will and Viola - a bard's love story
Review of Shakespeare In Love DVD by markd_uk

Advantages: Excellent Cast, Amusing
Disadvantages: Slightly Weak Plot, Slow To Get Going

...that explores the notion that Shakespeare wasn't that great a writer and was, in fact, simply a lusty man ever in search of a muse - or, in other words, a woman to lay that might, if he's lucky, give him some inspiration for a new play. I kind of like his style, actually. Trying to write "Romeo and Ethel, the Pirate's Daughter," Shakespeare - played by Joseph Fiennes - discovers he's suffering from writer's block, a phenomenon known to many of us ...
...appease both her desire for Shakespeare and the stage itself, Viola takes to the boards as a young boy and plays the part of Romeo in Will's new play. Shakespeare himself discovers quickly that this new muse has, indeed, unlocked his writer's block and he starts to write his new play, helped by the input of his financially depressed theatre owner, Hugh Fennyman (played by Tom Wilkinson) and his lead actor, Ned Alleyn, who ultimately suggests a new ... Real presence
Review of Being There DVD by frkurt

Advantages: Great performances, great story
Disadvantages: -

...is as close to pure being and a human being can be. Unspoilt by intellect, education, or experience of society, Chance the Gardener has been raised in a protective environment where he main concern is for plants, other living things coming close to simple being, and for a mindless attentiveness to the television that washes over him like a halo, providing him with sufficient information to make others around him believe he is wise and knowledgeable. ...
...backs up to watch himself being displayed from the video camera, and is injured by a passing car belonging to Benjamin Rand, wealthy financier and kingmaker. Mrs. Rand is in the car (played astutely by Shirley MacLaine), and insists on taking Chance (who, while taking his first alcoholic drink, garbles the words to the degree that she mishears his name, becomes at this point Chauncey) back to the Rand estate, where doctors and nurses are in attendance ... Jerry Maguire (Collector's Edition) (Wide Screen)
Review of Jerry Maguire (Collector's Edition) by Preezy

Advantages: Excellent content
Disadvantages: can be boring at times

Wow! this is a must see film. I was touched with the contents of the film. It covers alot of what is atually happening in the real world. It can relate to people from many walks of life. He is like the perfect guy. Tom cruise is a dream come true in this film. He is also such a cool eye candy! I would recomend this film to people if they are expecially employed and would want a film to relate to them. It can be a learning curve film for most people. ... Read review

Review of Junebug DVD by afy9mab

Advantages: Lovely performances
Disadvantages: There isn't a lot of action to drive the movie along

She's never met his family, so when they go to visit a reclusive artist in North Carolina, they extend their trip to take in his folks. None of them know quite what to make of the urban sophisticate and only Ashley welcomes ...
...really find common ground or are they doomed to misunderstand one another? Director Phil Morrison's film looks exactly like what it is; a low-budget independent movie that has to rely more on its cast and script than high-tech gadgetry and flashy visuals. It is shot on the hoof on digital video and fits the naturalistic style of acting and dialogue. It's almost as if you're a silent observer of the characters' lives, privy to their most intimate ... "Ah, black toe"
Review of Lost In Translation DVD by Jem_123

Advantages: Different, Modern, funny and stylish
Disadvantages: Different - not to everyones taste

I didn't hear much about this film when it was first released, and so I didn't go to see it at the cinema. The occasional reviews I did hear were generally bad ones; people didn't get it or thought it was a pointless film. I saw it being advertised on Film4 and it seemed quite interesting so I decided to see for myself because I do, more often than not, love every film I see haha. The film starts of with a shot of the main character, Bob Harris ...
...hotel in Tokyo. He is on a trip there to do some advertising in an attempt to keep the work coming in, as his is a slowly fading actor. Also staying in the same hotel is Charlotte [Scarlett Johansson] a young woman who has just graduated from Yale with a degree in Philosophy. She has recently married her husband, Jon [Giovanni Ribisi] a photographer, who's in Tokyo for business. The film begins by setting the scene and illustrating the loneliness ... Read review
