Bill Murray Shines

Advantages: Great performaces, entertaining set pieces
Disadvantages: A few too many cultural stereotypes

This is a film directed by Sofia Coppola (daughter of Francis Ford). It is a story of a chance encounter between 2 people in a Tokyo hotel - Bob Harris (Bill Murray) and Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson). Charlotte is in Tokyo accompanying her photographer husband while he is there shooting as she has recently graduated from university and has some time on her hands. Bob is staying in the hotel on business. He is an aging movie star who is starring ...
...his day to day life at home. Bob is having something of a midlife crisis and sees Charlotte as an escape from it. This is a curious and intriguing tale of love and relationships adepicting the two growing closer together. Both performances are excellent but special note has to go to Bill Murray for certainly his finest later career comic turn, which was rewarded by an Oscar nomination. The only slight grumble would be that on occasion the film plays ...

The Fashion World - The Devil wears Prada

Advantages: Good storyline, great acting
Disadvantages: Doesn't stick to the book

I had actually read the book of The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger before seeing this film for the first time and therefore think I may have a slightly different opinion to someone who has not read the book. The plot of the film is that a young girl called Andrea who has just graduated from college is out to find her first job. She really wants to become a journalist but knows she must find any way into the industry she can. She ends up going ...
...though; it is to be the new assistant to Miranda Priesly. Miranda is a notorious woman in the fashion industry who will not take no for an answer. When Andy attends the interview Miranda looks her up and down and is certainly disapproving of her attire. Andy ends up bursting out in anger during the interview, which seems to be the ticket to her employment. When she starts at Runway Andy is sceptical and mocks the other size 0 Miranda worshipers to ...

Weird and wacky film

Advantages: Enjoyable and entertaining
Disadvantages: It can sometimes get a bit confusing

Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind is a weird film directed by directed by Michel Gondry. It was released at the cinema in 2004. This film follows Joel Barish (Jim Carrey), who meets and falls in love with Clementine Kruczynski (Kate Winslet). Things go well, but then they discover that they both were lovers in the past, but after a big fight, In the past Clementine underwent a psychiatrist's experimental procedure and got her memories of Joel ...
...same procedure. However once the procedure starts Joel realises that he is not ready to erase his memories of Clementine and so his mind tries hiding parts of his memory to protect his time with Clementine. This film is slightly confusing and you may struggle to work out what is going on at times. However, on repeated viewings it does become clearer. It is a different type of story about what lengths someone will go to, to preserve his memories. ...

And the winner is... Little Miss Sunshine

Advantages: Great story and characters
Disadvantages: None

Little Miss Sunshine is a bit of a different film to the type that I enjoy watching but none the less it is one of my favourites. It first came out in the cinemas in 2006, so is a couple of years old now. Little Miss Sunshine is about an American family. They are not the perfect family that is normally depicted in films though, they are a bit rough round the edges. The dad Richard (Greg Kinnear) is a life coach who is trying his hardest to become ...
...beauty queen. She is a little chubby though and wears glasses, so doesn't seem like your average beauty queen. Her older brother Dwayne (Paul Dano) has taken a vow of silence until he fulfils his dream of becoming an airline pilot. The already disfunctional family are added to when Sheryls brother Frank (Steve Carell) tries to commit suicide after the man he loves ends up with someone else. The story follows this family as they all head off on a ...

Go Tootsie Go (Terrible song)

Advantages: Quite funny
Disadvantages: Too 80s. Doesn't stand up to Mrs. Doubtfire

The cover of this film looks crap and the name sounds crap even the blurb sounded crap but in my quest to watch all movies with Bill Murray I gave it a go. The film is about Michael Doresey (Dustin Hoffman) an out of work actor who is just too good at what he does. He doesn't get on with directors because he finds them stupid and as a result can't get any work. His friend Sandy (Teri Garr) takes him along to an audition with her and Doresey sees ...
...preceding him. He dresses up as a woman and gets the part, immediately becoming a hit. Strangely his character plays a very strong female role. He ad-libs his lines and as a result he ends up making the show alot less sexist and the female cast start looking to him for advice. This leads to poblems as he starts to fall for Julie (Jessica Lange) who has started to look on him as almost a mother figure as well as her father who has his eyes set on ...
