peep show series 5- it just keeps getting better!

Advantages: GREAT COMEDY!
Disadvantages: not enough episodes!

...have been a fan of Peep Show ever since it first came out. The brilliant comedy starring David Mitchell and Robert Webb. The two star as mismatched flatmates Mark and Jez (Jeremy) sharing a flat in London. Mark is the sensible, serious, hardworking friend, whereas Jez is the drug-taking, jobless, party loving wannabe muscian freeloading off of his best friend. In this series it follows on from where Mark and Sophie (his on off girlfriend through ...
...series 4, in a hillarious, disasterous wedding day where they immediately split after the nuptials! Mark is left wishing he never got married to Sophie (who he claims would marry anyone to have babies) and so starts tentively getting back into the dating game, prompted by Jez. With bad results, including the first episode where he ends up restraining a burglar whilst still trying to have a nice evening with his confused date! If you liked the last ...

Clever TV adaptation of 'Porterhouse Blue'

Advantages: Witty comical and superb caricatures
Disadvantages: None

A literary review has already observed " Sheer joy not only wildly funny but wickedly observed" and this sums up the pleasure to be found from this DVD. A TV adaptation by Channel 4 this production does justice to the book and really brings the characters to life. At 194 minutes in length the biggest problem will be deciding when to pause for refreshment and comfort breaks. Ian Richardson sublimely portrays the Master of a fictitious Cambridge ...
...such horrors as women students and canteens into a revered male bastion of learning....... The story unfolds with the unfortunate student 'Zipser' caught up in his fantasies and academic endeavours (which conjure up links for me from the film 'The Graduate') whilst the scurrillous and devious head porter (David Jason as Skullion) plots to retain what he hold most dear. Scenes of pomp and gluttony exquisitely caricature the hallowed image of a British ...

Best ever British comedy show - 100%

Advantages: so different
Disadvantages: none

In 2001, the face of TV was changed forever by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, creators or 'The Office'. It's a half hour show, with six episodes in this series, and its genre is mockumentary. A 'Mockumentary' is a fake documentary - everything is supposed to be real life, but the whole thing is a created show. 'The Office' follows the day in day out life of a paper suboffice in Slough. That's a painfully poor idea for a TV show you would think, ...
...at his jokes and you're the best employee ever? David Brent thinks he's the funniest, most inspirational leader ever - a friend, a boss and a comedian, but really he's just an idiot who makes a fool of himself every day. It's painful to watch his cringeworthy antics, and yet there's something loveable about him. Whilst Brent is undoubtedly the star of the show, there are still many other strong characters with their own storylines; Tim and Dawn ...

Girls Like Me Don't Make Invitations Like This

Advantages: A fantastic Tarantino film, never a dull moment.
Disadvantages: Blink and you may just lose the plot.

Having long been a fan of Director Quentin Tarantino, it should come as no surprise that 'Pulp Fiction' is one of my favourite films of all time. 'Pulp Fiction' was the 1994 follow up to 'Reservoir Dogs', a film I first saw at a young age and fell in love with instantaneously. Much like the way in which the films of Tim Burton tend to have a magical feel about them, Tarantino has a similarly distinctive directorial style, one of which I myself am ...
...brought John Travolta success in the 90's and was just a general all round cracker of a film. I get excited about the films of few directors, however every time a new Tarantino film is released I am amongst the first to get down to the cinema and view it. 'Pulp Fiction' is a film which I can view time and time again without ever tiring of, one that I can never get enough of and always enjoy watching. If it weren't a Tarantino film then I feel that ...

Loving Shakespeare

Advantages: A movie with it all
Disadvantages: None

...it strikes me that 1998's Shakespeare In Love is an incredibly misunderstood movie, furthermore those that are in the category "misunderstood" have some serious wrong views of exactly what Shakespeare In Love is about, many believe it is a straight laced romance. From first viewing 8 years ago it has become one of my favourite movies; a great romance, an epic tale, a intriguing romance, and last but not least a hysterical sense of humour. The owner ...
...get dried up author William Shakespeare (Joseph Fiennes) to write a new play "Romeo And Ethel The Pirate's Daughter!" Viola (Gwyneth Paltrow) also has similar worries to Henslow, while wanting to become an actress (or at the least an actor) she finds herself due to be married off to Lord Wessex (Colin Firth). The dawning of a new play by Shakespeare and the knowledge that women are not allowed to act; Viola develops a character a pseudonym in fact ...
