Oh Oh NO!
Review of Casino Royale (Wide Screen) by
garleon
Advantages: NONE, oh it would make a good coaster.
Disadvantages: You name it.
Casino Royale was the name of the first James Bond novel to be written by Ian Fleming in 1953. In 2006 we shall see Daniel Craig take on the role that such actors as Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan made their own. However in 1967, right after Thunderball and before You Only Live Twice there was another Casino Royale ! Casino Royale
If you are a fan of the James Bond films as I am, you will know that this film exists and is not classed as an "official" ... ...the back of the new Casino Royale, and I wish to stop that from happening. There is an all star cast including David Niven in the title role as Sir James Bond. Woody Allen, Orson Welles and even Ursula Andress. Right from the opening credits you get the feeling that THIS is where Mike Myers got his idea for Austin Powers. If not because of the 1960's music, but the whole Burt Bacharack style musical accompaniment and lovely ladies. I loved the Austin ...

Review of A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy (Wide Screen) by
arthurpringle
Advantages: Beautiful to look at, some good lines
Disadvantages: Not vintage Allen
A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy was released in 1982 and is one of the lesser known Woody Allen films. When production on the film 'Zelig' was delayed Allen wrote A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy in two weeks and shot it immediately for something to do. His intention was to make a film that was light in tone and 'pretty'. He wanted to do for the countryside what 'Manhattan' had done for New York and concocted a light, whimsical film set around 1910 ... ...With the Shakespere inspired title A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy riffs on sophisticated rural themed classics like A Day In The Country and Smiles Of A Summer Night. Allen has often expressed his dislike of the country and his struggles on having to survive visits there so a Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy is also something of an in-joke by the director.
Allen plays Andrew, a Wall Street Broker and part-time inventor. Amongst other things Andrew has ...

Well I know I didnt want to know this
Review of Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Sex But Were Afraid To Ask DVD by
judithritchie
Advantages: it is based on a real life book so you cant blame all of the perversion on Allen
Disadvantages: it may offend a few people and it isnt that funny
...based on a book called Everything You Wanted To Know About Sex by Dr David Reuben. When I first heard of the film I thought this most bizarre, basing a film for widespread cinematic viewing on a book written by a medical doctor that would probably not be read by the majority of its viewers, but I had assumed that the book would be written in a style that those without medical training could understand and may feature material appropriate to be made ... ...wedding night, so he tries everything he can think of to correct his, but to no avail. Until one day when they are in a shop, where he discovers how she positively she responds to having intercourse in public places. He loves her dearly and is willing to cater to her need, as he is desperate to please her. Hilarity follows as he fears getting caught. 4. Are Transvestites Homosexuals?
Sam and Taz are preparing for dinner with the parents of their ...

Autumn In New York
Review of Hannah And Her Sisters DVD by
arthurpringle
Advantages: An ambitious and classy addition to Woody Allen's CV
Disadvantages: You might dislike Woody Allen!
Hannah and Her Sisters is one of the most ambitious films in the long career of director Woody Allen. It was first released in 1986 and has the longest running time of any Allen picture. The film interweaves between the lives and relationships of several characters in a large upscale New York family and features an amazing ensemble cast. Central to this of course are the seemingly perfect Hannah (played by Mia Farrow) and her two sisters Holly (Dianne ... ...Alexander' (Like Fanny and Alexander, Hannah and Her Sisters begins and ends with a festive family gathering) Hannah and Her Sisters is not Woody in his ultra serious mode. If the 'early funny ones' (Sleeper, Bananas, Take the Money and Run) constitute 'comedy Woody' and the likes of Interiors, Another Woman and September 'serious Woody' then Hannah and Her Sisters is a return to the 'inbetween Woody', a film with serious themes and dramatic elements ...

Woody's Greek Goddess
Review of Mighty Aphrodite DVD by
allmodcons
Advantages: Very Funny, Mira Sorvino is Excellent
Disadvantages: The whole Greek chorus thing
...so here’s the latest…
Mighty Aphrodite is an identity–based comedy from Woody Allen, where a man goes in search of his adopted son’s natural parents, and sets in motion an unexpected chain of events as a consequence.
Lenny (Allen) is a sports writer married to Amanda (Helena Bonham-Carter), and they decide to adopt a child. As the child grows, he shows signs of exceptional ability and intelligence, and this leads Lenny to embark on a search to ... ...able to track the mother, who it turns out is a prostitute and adult film star, and the father is a mystery. Linda, the natural mother, is played by Mira Sorvino, who puts in a powerhouse performance, something of a trademark for Allen’s leading ladies. Actually, she won an Oscar for best supporting actress as the damaged and dim Linda, who attempts to tough it through life with disarming honesty and naivety while covering up her hidden heartbreak ...
