"Sex is what people do most and admit least"

Advantages: Based on the director's own experiences.
Disadvantages: In French.

...Film after Filming a Graphic sex scene in it herself. This film is in French, but has English subtitles. However you don't really need the subtitles, to understand what is going on.! The Film is all about making an Adult movie. The "director" (Parillaud), is trying to get his head actor (Colin) and his head actress (Mesquida) to give the most realistic performance of graphic sex. But in the movie they hate each other. You can imagine how hard this ...
...is a pretty boy who thinks Mesquida is an idiot. Watching them kiss is an exercise in understated apathy. Catherine (The real Director) treats the subject with real respect for her audience's sensibilities. This film has the rare truth about Sex, where confusion gets in the way of sexiness. Parillaud (The movie Director) Has to find away to make the head Actors come together. The film is hilarous. There is nothing sexy about a man being paid ...

Getting to Know Martha

Advantages: Martina Gedeck, Maxime Foerste, Sergio Castellitto, Nettelbeck’s script and direction.
Disadvantages: Ending just a tiny tad too facile.

At one point in ‘Mostly Martha’, the title character finds herself at her wits’ end and says to her niece, Lina, ‘I wish I had a recipe for you that I could follow.’ Unfortunately, learning how to deal with the complex psyche of Homo sapiens defies easy formulas. However, whatever recipe German director Sandra Nettelbeck used to create this lovely and bittersweet character piece, I can only wish that more filmmakers would follow her lead. The eponymous ...
...fancy restaurant in Hamburg. A reserved woman with a strict creative aesthetic and work ethic, she takes great pride in her efficiently-run kitchen. As she tells her gourmet cuisine-fed therapist, precision and timing are of paramount importance in her field of work. Martha seems to live solely for her elegant culinary creations, devoting her days off to experimenting with new dishes. She has a neat, meticulously arranged and well-appointed kitchen ...

Hamming it up in Spain

Advantages: Entertaining, amusing
Disadvantages: Some won't see the point

Silvia, the daughter of the local whore, works in a factory making shorts, but hopes to improve her living standards (and shoe collection) by marrying the son of the factory's owner, Jose Luis. When she finds herself pregnant, Jose Luis does indeed ask her to marry him...the only problem is his parents, who disapprove. His mother hires a part-time model, Raul, to get to know Silvia and steal her away from Jose Luis. But then both Silvia and Jose ...
...good for any of them. Who will win the battle for Raul? And what will happen to Jose Luis and his unborn child? I have wanted to see this film for quite some time; not because I have any particular affiliation to Spain, but because the film sounded interesting and a bit different. Directed by Bigas Luna, it takes a look at a slice of Spanish life in a backwater town where anything seems to go. I was not disappointed by this film. It will not be everyone's ...

A little seduction never did anyone any harm!

Advantages: Brilliant french humour and charming characters
Disadvantages: A bit silly and lightweight

...all the way. Overall, Seducing Dr Lewis is one of the best comedies I've seen for a while. If you're sick of slushy rom-coms, puerile gross-out movies and frankly dire film parodies (mentioning no names, Scary Movie 4) then you should give this a try. A return to traditional values is what modern society needs I reckon, and you'll definitely leave the film with a smile on your face. You can buy Seducing ...

Considering the same rating was given to Monster's Ball it's a joke really.) My Rating: 4 stars ...

How it changed my life.

Advantages: Funny and accurate
Disadvantages: A few stereotypes maybe.

Hello!! Tonight, I would like to write about another French movie. Not only is this film one of my favourites, but I think it also changed my life. Let me explain… "L'Auberge Espagnole" or "Pot Luck" was released on French screens in 2002, as I was about to start my second year at university. The film plot is quite simple. Xavier, a 25-year-old French student decides to spend a year in Barcelona as part of a European exchange scheme. At first, ...
...struggles to find a decent accommodation... until he finds THE perfect place: a messy apartment shared by 6 young people from various origins: Italian, English, Spanish, Danish, German and Belgian. The film is about Xavier's year abroad, and mostly about sharing a place, especially when everyone is from a different culture. The film is in French, with subtitles, but some of the dialogues also are in Spanish, and quite often in English. The Cast ...
