Laurel and Hardy 21 dvd boxset
Review of Laurel And Hardy (Box Set) by
slamdunk22
Advantages: Much better quality than VHS
Disadvantages: Absolutely none
...life I have been a laurel and hardy fan. I was an advocate of the "old fashioned" vhs videos and had a great collection of all of the boys films, which I treasured, but was reluctant to play in case they got damaged. This new dvd boxset has been a godsend, in being concise, hard wearing, and excellent quality, so much so in I have even started given film shows, and lending the films out, to my sons to get them into carrying on the tradition of loving ... ...colourised films included, which to a die hard B+W film lover was a shocking concept, but I must admit it was great to see the boys in the digitised colour versions of all of their classic films. My advice to all the L+H fans out there is to grab a boxset while they are available and give yourselves a treat. ...

A Box Of Delights
Review of Ealing Comedy DVD by
tigswade
Advantages: 3 terrific classic films and lots of bonus material
Disadvantages: no subtitles
...for this gift set of Ealing Comedies, featuring not only "Passport to Pimlico" but two films I had not, at that time, heard of, namely "Hue and Cry" and "The Titfield Thunderbolt". I am so glad that I did. I have been treated to an additional two features from the postwar period of the Ealing Studios that I might never have come across otherwise, and some great bonus features to boot.
HUE AND CRY
Released in 1947, this film is usually ... ...As with all of the Ealing Comedies, this is not just a cracking story but is a film brimming over with fabulous characterisation. Most worthy of a mention is surely Alastair Sim's portrayal of Felix H. Wilkinson, the scarf-clad writer fond of a glass of ginger pop and gin, living a hermit's existence, tucked away in his taxidermy filled apartment with his cat Otto. Far more concerned about split infinitives creeping into his work than coded messages ...

Would you hire this man?
Review of Chaplin (Box Set) by
MissOpinion
Advantages: Reserved the essence of Chaplin
Disadvantages: All the bad stuff that haapened to him
...downs and the obstacles which Chaplin had to overcome in order to get to a place in his life at which he was happiest, a place in life where he found peace and content, a place which only some of us rarely find; that minute measure of peace in which we bask and reflect on life without having any worries. A place, that no matter who you are, everyone is looking for.
As a child Chaplin was once confined to a bed for weeks due to a serious illness ... ...of the major reasons why Chaplin became a comedian. Hannah herself was a performer and so young Charlie gained familiarity with the stage and the crowds.
Along the way Charlie managed to get hired for various jobs, in which he played various characters, mainly clumsy or drunk. Eventually Charlie was hired by and American Director by the name of Mack Sennett. Sennett was a huge director of the time and so for Charlie this was a big break. Sennett ...
