After a whirlwind romance that ends in marriage, Larita is whisked to England in order to meet the in-laws. A Box Of Delights
Advantages: 3 terrific classic films and lots of bonus material Disadvantages: no subtitles
...for this gift set of Ealing Comedies, featuring not only "Passport to Pimlico" but two films I had not, at that time, heard of, namely "Hue and Cry" and "The Titfield Thunderbolt". I am so glad that I did. I have been treated to an additional two features from the postwar period of the Ealing Studios that I might never have come across otherwise, and some great bonus features to boot.
HUE AND CRY
Released in 1947, this film is usually ... ...As with all of the Ealing Comedies, this is not just a cracking story but is a film brimming over with fabulous characterisation. Most worthy of a mention is surely Alastair Sim's portrayal of Felix H. Wilkinson, the scarf-clad writer fond of a glass of ginger pop and gin, living a hermit's existence, tucked away in his taxidermy filled apartment with his cat Otto. Far more concerned about split infinitives creeping into his work than coded messages ...

Can You Take The Beverly Hill's Out Of The Chihuahua?
Advantages: A good all round family film with good messges Disadvantages: If you don't like dogs - you won't like the film
...is rich and lives in Beverly Hills with an overly spoilt dog, Chloe. You would think Chloe is a child the way in which Aunt Viv looks after and treats her. Aunt Viv has no children, just a niece, Rachel. Rachel is also a spoilt so and so, wanting what she wants and not having any commitments or responsibilities. The gardener owns a dog, Papi who is in love with Chloe, but of course, not one bit good enough, he is staff! Chloe ends up being looked ... ...actually is outside of the Beverly Hills Chihuahua persona she has at home. My Thoughts ~~~~~~~~~~~ I thought this film was going to be utterly awful, but I found I not only really enjoyed it, I loved it. It has the making for a great film, for children. It has an in-depth story with underlying messages that are not only obviously clear but well presented. So many children these days aren't given the correct education in values and morals and I think ...

The wedding of the year 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding'
Advantages: Fun, nice story Disadvantages: Predictable
I first watched My Big Fat Greek Wedding a few years ago and although it hasn't become one of my favourite films, I do still watch it from time to time. The film first came out in 2002 so has been around for quite a while now. The story of the film is based around a character called Toula Portokalos (Christina Eleusiniotis). Toula is from a greek family, who take the traditions of their culture very seriously. Her family own a resteraunt called 'Dancing ... ...her thirties and yet has never really done anything with her life. She is plain and no-one really notices her as she goes around her everyday life. One day Toula decides to do something about her life and signs up to a college course. It isn't easy for her to persuade her Father Gus (Michael Constantine), but her Mother Maria (Lainie Kazan) manages to help her. Once she has started the course she starts to feel more confident in herself and decides ...

Offender of the Universe
Advantages: sick slick rapid succession of one line jokes Disadvantages: turns the air blue, plenty of bad language, not for the easily offended
Jimmy Carr is the Marmite of Comedy, you either love him or hate him, there’s not really much in between. On the UK comedy scene for the past 10 years, he has become more and more known over the past few years, in particular as host of comedy quiz ‘8 out of 10 cats’ and voice of many a Channel 4 ‘Top 100 shows’. Carr himself was voted number 12 in the ‘Top 100 Comedians’. Personally I love Jimmy Carr. Then again, I love a lot of the modern comedians, ... ...over the past decade. Jimmy Carr Telling Jokes is his latest DVD release. There are four previous releases of his stage show, all recorded at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London over time from 2005 until this year. One of Jimmy Carr’s previous DVDs opens with a warning: “This show is not for the easily offended, this is not even for those difficult to offend, this show is for people without moral compass.” Not only is this true for the DVD is was on, ...
