Amelie
Advantages: all around amazing, entertaining, well thought out Disadvantages: nothing
I think that this is probably the best movie I have ever seen. Not only is the story completely terrific, but the filming is great as well! I love the effect put on the filming throughout the whole movie. I love the concept of this story. It reminds me that happiness in life depends on how you live your life, how to look at it, and how you try to improve, not only your own life, but others' as well. Every character in this movie is well thought out ... ...only is this a completely fulfilling and touching movie, it also has quite a bit of humour in it. I have zero bad things to say about this movie. I love everything about it, and I'm sure anyone who watches it will too. While watching this movie, it will help if you are a good reader or if you speak French, as the film is in French and unless you speak it you'll have to read subtitles. If that's not a problem for you, then I'm sure you'll adore this ...

Getting to Know Martha
Advantages: Martina Gedeck, Maxime Foerste, Sergio Castellitto, Nettelbeck’s script and direction. Disadvantages: Ending just a tiny tad too facile.
At one point in ‘Mostly Martha’, the title character finds herself at her wits’ end and says to her niece, Lina, ‘I wish I had a recipe for you that I could follow.’
Unfortunately, learning how to deal with the complex psyche of Homo sapiens defies easy formulas. However, whatever recipe German director Sandra Nettelbeck used to create this lovely and bittersweet character piece, I can only wish that more filmmakers would follow her lead.
The eponymous ... ...fancy restaurant in Hamburg. A reserved woman with a strict creative aesthetic and work ethic, she takes great pride in her efficiently-run kitchen. As she tells her gourmet cuisine-fed therapist, precision and timing are of paramount importance in her field of work.
Martha seems to live solely for her elegant culinary creations, devoting her days off to experimenting with new dishes. She has a neat, meticulously arranged and well-appointed kitchen ...

Italian lessons in love
Advantages: Heartwarming look at life and blossoming relationships Disadvantages: Ties up too neatly
...him sacked. He's fluent in Italian and translates for his colleague... Giulia (Sara Indrio Jensen), a young Italian waitress who barely speaks Danish. She spends most of her time praying that Jorgen will notice her, even though he is 10 years older and doesn't speak Italian. Olympia (Anette Stovelbaek) is the excessively clumsy bakery assistant who takes leftover cakes to her ungrateful and extremely bitter homebound father every night. Her father ... ...through their workplaces and an Italian evening class some of them join to learn Italian, but become poignantly closer through a series of coincidences. ---- Synopsis over ---- The film is a wonderful exploration of human nature, a result I guess from the Dogme mandate. As the film is unable to rely on false settings or special effects, it is forced to make full use of its script and actors' acting skills. Each of the characters are at first filmed ...

The wedding of the year 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding'
Advantages: Fun, nice story Disadvantages: Predictable
I first watched My Big Fat Greek Wedding a few years ago and although it hasn't become one of my favourite films, I do still watch it from time to time. The film first came out in 2002 so has been around for quite a while now. The story of the film is based around a character called Toula Portokalos (Christina Eleusiniotis). Toula is from a greek family, who take the traditions of their culture very seriously. Her family own a resteraunt called 'Dancing ... ...her thirties and yet has never really done anything with her life. She is plain and no-one really notices her as she goes around her everyday life. One day Toula decides to do something about her life and signs up to a college course. It isn't easy for her to persuade her Father Gus (Michael Constantine), but her Mother Maria (Lainie Kazan) manages to help her. Once she has started the course she starts to feel more confident in herself and decides ...

Offender of the Universe
Advantages: sick slick rapid succession of one line jokes Disadvantages: turns the air blue, plenty of bad language, not for the easily offended
Jimmy Carr is the Marmite of Comedy, you either love him or hate him, there’s not really much in between. On the UK comedy scene for the past 10 years, he has become more and more known over the past few years, in particular as host of comedy quiz ‘8 out of 10 cats’ and voice of many a Channel 4 ‘Top 100 shows’. Carr himself was voted number 12 in the ‘Top 100 Comedians’. Personally I love Jimmy Carr. Then again, I love a lot of the modern comedians, ... ...over the past decade. Jimmy Carr Telling Jokes is his latest DVD release. There are four previous releases of his stage show, all recorded at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London over time from 2005 until this year. One of Jimmy Carr’s previous DVDs opens with a warning: “This show is not for the easily offended, this is not even for those difficult to offend, this show is for people without moral compass.” Not only is this true for the DVD is was on, ...
