Review of Shakespeare In Love DVD by
markd_uk
Advantages: Excellent Cast, Amusing
Disadvantages: Slightly Weak Plot, Slow To Get Going

Trying to write "Romeo and Ethel, the Pirate's Daughter," Shakespeare - played by Joseph Fiennes - discovers he's suffering from writer's block, a phenomenon known to many of us ... ...appease both her desire for Shakespeare and the stage itself, Viola takes to the boards as a young boy and plays the part of Romeo in Will's new play.
Shakespeare himself discovers quickly that this new muse has, indeed, unlocked his writer's block and he starts to write his new play, helped by the input of his financially depressed theatre owner, Hugh Fennyman (played by Tom Wilkinson) and his lead actor, Ned Alleyn, who ultimately suggests a new ...

Review of The Truman Show (Wide Screen) by
Phoebe_25
Advantages: It gives you an insight to what it would be like to be watched 24/7
Disadvantages: Jim carrey is not for everyone.
...addiction to "reality" television and the question arises, where would you draw the line?
The Truman Show is a compelling film that will leave you debating its message, right until the last minute. Truman Burbank (Jim Carrey) is adopted, by a television studio for the sole purpose of broadcasting his entire life, to the whole world, without his knowledge. Christof (Ed Harris) is the director of the show. He sets Truman up for emotional setbacks ... ...high. The film raises many questions and makes the audience wonder: How would you feel if your whole life was fiction and you were manipulated by some invisible director? Imagine it!
Reunited for the first time in years! When Truman is reunited with his dad it is a powerful, moving scene that is cleverly constructed to highlight the way Christof manipulates Truman. It also interprets how the audience construes this manipulation. This reunited scene ...

froggyandgiraffe
Advantages: Great story, great performances

Simply Marvellous - Some Like It Hot
Review of Some Like It Hot (Special Edition) (Wide Screen) by
Ottavia
Advantages: It's brilliant
Disadvantages: None
.
Some Like It Hot is an outstanding film, featuring brilliant perfomances from Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon and the supporting cast. It's laugh-out-loud funny, with an excellent plot that'll have you hooked from the off and songs that'll be stuck in your head for weeks! Made in 1959, this film instantly became a hit and with time, a classic. The story was co-written by Robert Thoeren and Michael Logan. They had used the same premise ... ...chase between the police and some heavys from the local gangsters illegal nightclub. They're carrying bootleg whiskey in coffins. When they finally lose the police they drive down an alleyway and unload the goods. Then we see the 'funeral parlour' where they are taken...and once the door's closed we're shown the nightclub that's out the back and the lavish party that's going on - gangsters, alcohol, dancing girls and the band. It's when we see the ...
