Review of Sister Act / Sister Act 2: Back In The Habit DVD by
gazaza9000
Advantages: Fab films
Disadvantages: None
...and sing and dance.
Sister Act 1
Sister Act is about a Reno lounge singer named Deloris Van Carter who witnesses her mobster boyfriend killing an employer. She is then hidden in a convent under a witness protection program. She soon makes friends with the nuns especially Sister Mary Robert, Sister Mary Lazuras and Sister Mary Patrick. After the Mother Superior catches Deloris going out to a bar in the night time followed by Mary Robert and Mary ... ...are in the film.
Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit.
The sisters come back to Delores's show to get her back as Sister Mary Clarence to teach music to a group of students in their parochial school which is doomed for closure. One of the girls, who is the most talented of the bunch, is forbidden to sing by her mother, although the choir has made it to the state championship. A group of stereotypical incompetent monks tries to stop them.

Bikini Carwash Company - Absolute genius.
Review of The Bikini Carwash Company DVD by
hukerjohn
Advantages: Girls in bikinis, or not, washing not very dirty cars.
Disadvantages: Erm? Storyline, plot, characters, acting, lots!
...business. He bumps into the skimpily clad Melissa Reese (played by Kristi Ducati) on the beach after taking a few wrong turns looking for his uncles carwash. Melissa, being somewhat of the entrepreneur, manages to talk Jack into letting her run the business for a cut of the money. She enlists her friends help who, I quote, are a bunch of bodacious california babes.
The girls get the cars rolling in for a wash and with the cars comes the cash!! After ... ...get into some trouble from the local mayor and police. So it's back on with the bikini tops but, you guessed it, not for long! Eventually the uncle returns from taking some time off to a thriving semi-naked business.
One of the mysterious sub-plots that has you on edge for the entire film is the flasher... Who is the man that runs about town flashing at all his unsuspecting victims?
At the end the girls take pretty much all of their clothes off ...

Como Agua Para Chocolate
Review of Like Water For Chocolate (Subtitled) by
JeffreyB
Advantages: An insight into Mexican at the time
Disadvantages: Translation lacks appeal
...Tender, compassionate and very witty, like the book on which it is based, this movie celebrates Mexican culture. The music( classical string, acoustic gituar), the style of life on a ranch (plenty of examples of lifestyle, parties entertainment etc), the strength of the extended family (reasonably well to do - domestic staff help out), the beauty of the land (Mexican farmland and countryside), and the ethnic mixing pot that is every Mexican (South ... ...Spanish with sub titles, possibly the translation is a little brutal.
There is so much reckless joy and passionate love in this film, even when it portrays pain. It openly depicts female eroticism (the nudity is tasteful, not too risque for 15 and over). The acting is flawless, and the star, Lumi Cavazos, is absolutely charming, full of life and credibility.
The picture quality is a little dull.!
MY OPINION
The only flaws I found in this film ...

John McClane Is Back !!!
Review of National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1 (Wide Screen) by
SRowlands
Advantages: Very funny visual gags.
Disadvantages: Relies heavily on knowledge of 80's culture.
...this one down !!), the National Lampoon tag is a blessing to some, and a curse to many !
In 1993, the latest National Lampoon movie to hit the big screen was "National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1". The movie, starring Emilo Estevez and Samuel L. Jackson promised to spoof virtually every action movie in existence, but could it meet fans expectations ?
The opening scene sees Sgt. Jack Colt (Estevez) entering an L.A. convenience store where, unknowingly, ... ...villans, along with most of the stock.
The scene cuts to the home of an off-duty police officer, Sgt Billie York, (played by Whoopi Goldberg), where the plot of the movie is explained - (she even says that "if this were a movie, this would be the bit to listen too" !). She has in her posession a piece of microfilm that has a top-secret recipe to turn cocaine into cookies, from which General Mortars (William Shatner) plans to distribute cocaine throughout ...

Marriage under the microscope
Review of Husbands And Wives (Wide Screen) by
allmodcons
Advantages: Thought provoking & insightful
Disadvantages: Hand held style can be a little wearing in parts
...to eat?
So opens Husbands and Wives, a Woody Allen study of marriage and fidelity that hits very close to home. Filmed in a documentary - in parts almost home movie - style, it examines how marriage and a person's role within it can define and to an extent, dictate, not just who they are, but who they think they are.
The plot line - Two couples who are close friends, one couple splits up and the other is left to examine whether they are really ... ...fairly standard film device. What places this one above the average for me is the sense of involvement you feel with the main characters. Whether this is the intimate nature of the direction or the great acting I don't know, but they are both worth a mention.
The splitting couple are played by Allen favourite Judy Davis (Sally) and a first time actor's outing for award winning director Sydney Pollack (Jack). The other couple are (the then real life ...
