Up in smoke
Review of Cheech And Chong's Up In Smoke (Wide Screen) by blissman70

Advantages: Hilarious acting and side splitting scenes
Disadvantages: none from me

...first of 10 films starring Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong. Directors: Lou Adler and Tommy Chong Producers: Lou Adler and Lou Lombardo Writers: Tommy Chong and Cheech Marin Stars: Cheech Marin, Tommy Chong, Eddie Adams and Stacy Keech [**This movie was given an 18 certificate, although it was banned in some countries as the authorities deemed it unsuitable for glorifying drug taking**] Cheech and Chong played the parts of two drug addicts who ...
...most drug addicted people portray, Cheech and Chong are very rarely violent as they are permanently 'stoned' and are incapable of fighting, they have a simple, relaxed way of life. The film starts by introducing the two characters to the audience. Chong, (who's character name Antony Stoner is mentioned only once, then he is only known as ' Man') comes from a good American family. He is an unemployed hippie who has a laid back attitude to life and ... Read review

'Love's like a butterfly…'??!
Review of Butterflies - Series 1 - Complete DVD by sunmeilan

Advantages: Quite funny, interesting social commentary of the time
Disadvantages: Wendy Craig's character quite annoying

...think it works better than Butterflies and, although it has got very silly recently, the original actors at least are all strong, whereas those in Butterflies just don’t seem to quite gel together. Unusually for a sitcom from this era, there are extras included on the DVD. There is an interview with Carla Lane, which I found really interesting – she now lives in the middle of nowhere and tends to keep away from people as far as she can – no more ...
...on the main actors’ filmographies and another one including production notes. The latter was quite interesting; for example, the theme tune is based on the original Dolly Parton one, but sung by Clare Torry, who is best known for her singing on the Pink Floyd album, The Dark Side of the Moon. Strangely, the extras are repeated on both the discs that make up the first series. In conclusion, I am not sure that I recommend this series, particularly ... Read review

Sergeant Rutters Only Darts Club Band?
Review of The Rutles All You Need Is Cash by steerpyke

Advantages: lots
Disadvantages: none

'On January 21, 1959 the Rutles story began at 43 Egg Lane, Liverpool, where Ron Nasty and Dirk McQuickly first bumped into each other. Ron invited Dirk to help him stand up. Dirk, merely an amateur drinker, agreed and on that spot a legend was created, a legend that will last a lunchtime. They were soon to be joined by Stig O'Hara, a guitarist of no fixed hairstyle, but it would be another two years before they found their regular drummer, Barrington ...
..." And so begins the saga of the Rutles. But who are the Rutles? In 1975 a new TV comedy series appeared on British screen, Rutland Weekend Television, the love child of Eric Idle, ex-Monty Python and one time Bonzo Dog Band frontman Neil Innes. The show ran for two series and is remembered only in cult comedy circles. One sketch contained a Beatle-esque song called "I Must Be In Love" and the band who performed it were dubbed the Rutles. After the ... Read review

Sex In Israel
Review of Lemon Popsicle DVD by sghawken

Advantages: The cause of all the 70's and 80's sex comedies
Disadvantages: Really dated now, but still worth a watch

...a small Israeli movie called Lemon Popsicle. Also known as Eskimo Limon, or Going All The Way the Lemon Popsicle movies were so popular and successful that they made nine, yes nine sequels; and even went as far to being re-made as an American movie though this bombed under pressure to be like the original movies. I guess I could be stereotypically classifying the people of Israel, but when I think about the country I think about three things, religion, ...
...present. When I first saw Lemon Popsicle (Dubbed into English, or at the very least American) I honestly believed that the movie was filmed and made in America. It was a few years later before the revelation that these were in fact Israeli movies; clever editing hiding most of the tell tale signs. Lemon Popsicle circles around three boys Benji (Yftach Katzur), Bobby (Jonathon Sagall) and Hughie (Zachi Noy) who during the 1950's are finishing up their ... Read review
