The laughter continues ..............
Review of The Good Life Series 2 by
SusanLesley
Advantages: Great laughs, series hasn't lost anything with age
Disadvantages: None
...recently written a review about the complete boxed set of every episode of the seventies comedy The Good Life in which I promised to do reviews on each of the individual DVD's in the set. I have already done the review on series one and now here is series two …….
I won't repeat the set up here as I would be repeating what I said in the previous reviews and that wouldn't be fair on you as the reader or on Ciao who would be paying me twice for the ... ...and a goat! The next door neighbours are Margot and Jerry Leadbetter who are good friends with Tom and Barbara. However Margot is a snob and is horrified at the new set up next door.
The sit com is then a series of various events and their consequences to all parties. So the second DVD in the set has the seven episodes of Series Two which were originally broadcast in 1976.
Just my Bill
In this episode Tom sets out to sell his surplus in order ...

Britain's best comedy - Series 2
Review of Fawlty Towers - Series 2 - Complete DVD by
corkoz
Advantages: Great scripts, superb acting, hilarious!!
Disadvantages: Are there any?
...as the incompetent hotelier Basil Fawlty and he is more than ably assisted by the likes of Prunella Scales (Basil's wife, Sybille Fawlty), Andrew Sachs (Manuel, the waiter), Connie Booth (the maid, Polly) and the brilliant Ballard Berkeley (as the slightly senile yet lovable Major).
As with the first series, most of the laughs come through the comic misunderstandings of Basil and his poor attempts at solving any problems and this formula definitely ... ...in the previous six episodes.
However, this time it seems that a bit more emphasis is placed on the supporting characters, such as the Major, rather than just solely focusing on Basil, as seemed to happen more in the previous series. I think this works well overall, as all of the cast seem well able to make us laugh, and most of the characters play their roles to perfection.
The six episodes on this DVD from the second series are:

Review of Open All Hours - Series 1 DVD by
sunmeilan
Advantages: Ronnie Barker and David Jason
Disadvantages: Not very PC!
...that I can sometimes catch Open All Hours on the TV didn't stop me from wanting to buy, particularly now that Ronnie Barker is no longer with us. My only real criticism of the DVD is the humour can be a little grating after a while and I find I need a break from it for some considerable time. The show was made in the 1970s when political correctness hadn't quite reached TV producers, so there is some racist and sexist content that may offend some. ...

More like Murder By Laughter
Review of Murder By Death DVD by
Davie123
Advantages: Outstanding cast and wonderful storyline
Disadvantages: Hard to get a hold of
Murder By Death is a vastly underrated film in my opinion and one that deserves more credit. I wouldn't be surprised if people reading this had never heard of let alone seen this film. There could be many reasons for this, one of which could be the fact that it was made in 1976 (I think although it says 1979 in the category). If, however, I reel off some of the cast members you will perhaps be surprised you've never heard of it. David Niven, Dame ... ...play that a movie).
Murder By Death was written by Neil Simon. "Who?" I hear you ask. Well he is responsible for The Odd Couple, The Sunshine Boys, California Suite, The Out Of Towners and Biloxi Blues among others. He was also a writer for the Phil Silvers Show at one point. With credentials like that you should feel you are in for a treat and believe me, you are.
So what's the plot. Well it's a mystery/thriller/comedy (with emphasis on the comedy) ...

Woody's Bananas
Review of Bananas (Wide Screen) by
povertyworstviolence
Advantages: humor
Disadvantages: humor
Allen's gorilla warfare satire and political stabs (at J. Edgar Hoover and the likes) are memorable, one worth noting however- when trying to very discreetly, and unsuccessfully, buying a nudie magazine in small shop. The arrays of parodies are too vast to categorize- however, too often Allen dragged the burlesque of the scene.
For the price stated above- it's worth it, for if by any particular reason you don't like it- you only lost max. of four ...
