Carry On To Ellsbells
Review of Carry On Abroad (Special Edition) (Wide Screen) by IanPhillips

Advantages: Is one of the best Carry On's
Disadvantages: None as such

Carry On Abroad truly encapsulates the feel-good spirit that made the films such an enduring success. Nearly all of the teams favourite regulars are here as well as some extra additions to the cast line-up. The usual batch of players that are present and clearly on good form are Sid James, Joan Sims, Kenneth Williams, Peter Butterworth, Charles Hawtrey, Babara Windsor, Hattie Jaques, Kenneth Connor and Bernard Bresslaw and are joined by Scottish ...
...the best endings in a Carry On film, firmly holding onto that fine, feel-good spirit which would slowly dissolve from here on. The cast are all on usual form, though Peter Butterworth and Hattie Jaques are perharps the best players here. They make an almost Laurel and Hardy kind of duo and Jaques in particular is an unusual role, playing a Spanish, downtrodden and seemingly demented cook. The rest of the cast certainly get their moments including ... Read review

Medical Madness With The Merry Carry On Gang
Review of Carry On Matron (Special Edition) (Wide Screen) by IanPhillips

Advantages: The cameo role of Joan Sims
Disadvantages: Charles Hawtrey given limited screen time

The medical Carry On films had always been a popular phenomenon within the long-running British comedy film series. Carry On Nurse (1959) had topped the U.S box office charts and ran in U.S cinemas for over and impressive two and a half years! Carry On Doctor (1967) was virtually an updated re-make of Carry On Nurse (1959) and this also became a huge box office hit. Carry On Again Doctor (1969) is my own personal favourite medical Carry On and yet ...
...be wearing thin with the Carry On's so producer Peter Rogers and director Gerald Thomas decided a return to the hospital, which had always proved a popular staple in the series, was what the series needed to give it an injection of life needed after the failure of the previous film, Carry On At Your Convienience (1971) (though At Your Convienience is now rightly regarded as a classic in the series it suffered dire box office returns on its original ... Banking the Pill
Review of Carry On Matron DVD by web_server_uk

Advantages: The Carry-on feeling remain all the way through
Disadvantages: None that I can think of

Carry On Matron had its first public screening in Studio One, London on 18th May 1972. A budget of only £220,256 and 6 weeks, the team had to get cracking. The actors in this film consisted of Kenneth Williams, Hattie Jacques, Sidney James, Kenneth Cope, Barbara Windsor, Bernard Bresslaw, Joan Sims, Kenneth Connor, Terry Scott, and of course not forgetting Charles Hawtrey (I bet they got quite confused with the amount of actors called ‘Kenneth’ on ...
...film… I have owned Carry On Matron on VHS for about 3-4 years, and now on DVD for only a few months. I feel that this is a very good film that should be seen by every one of all ages. Personally, I think that a separate section of Carry On films should have been made for all of the hospital visits. There is never more than 3 plots and sub-plots within each other during this film, which makes it very easy to follow than some of the Carry On films ... Read review

Carry On Abroad
Review of Carry On Abroad DVD by martin2048

Advantages: The carry on cast at their best!
Disadvantages: So cheap to make they didn't finish the set!

...films in the series! Carry on Abroad (1972) starts with Vic Flange (Sid James) a local pub landlord planning to get away for a weekend break to the resort of Els Bels - his wife Cora (Joan Sims) - does not enjoy flying and so he is hoping to have time on his own with one of his "regulars" Sadie Tompkins (Barbara Windsor) - of course Joans Sims sees right through him and in the end decides to go along with him! The group gathers at the local travel ...

Simply Marvellous - Some Like It Hot
Review of Some Like It Hot (Special Edition) (Wide Screen) by Ottavia

Advantages: It's brilliant
Disadvantages: None

. Some Like It Hot is an outstanding film, featuring brilliant perfomances from Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon and the supporting cast. It's laugh-out-loud funny, with an excellent plot that'll have you hooked from the off and songs that'll be stuck in your head for weeks! Made in 1959, this film instantly became a hit and with time, a classic. The story was co-written by Robert Thoeren and Michael Logan. They had used the same premise ...
...chase between the police and some heavys from the local gangsters illegal nightclub. They're carrying bootleg whiskey in coffins. When they finally lose the police they drive down an alleyway and unload the goods. Then we see the 'funeral parlour' where they are taken...and once the door's closed we're shown the nightclub that's out the back and the lavish party that's going on - gangsters, alcohol, dancing girls and the band. It's when we see the ... Read review
