More Carry On Madness
Review of Carry On Loving (Special Edition) (Wide Screen) by IanPhillips

Advantages: The great Sid James and Hattie Jaques
Disadvantages: No Barbara Windsor

Carry On Loving exploded onto British cinemas in 1970 and scored one of its biggest success stories in the series. Though variable in quality, Carry On Loving hit contemporary times perfectly in this mildly risque offering and was entering into the more liberal times which was something director, Gerald Thomas and producer, Peter Rogers intended to loosley draw upon. Carry On Loving is now, perharps one of the more dated entries in the series but ...
...factor that had made the Carry On's such a winner in the first place. You know that there are better things out there than this but yet theres something about the cozy little world of the Carry Ons that remains refreshingly amusing and often provides perfect escapism. Carry On Loving is slightly similar in its content to an earlier addition in the series, Carry On Regardless (1959) with a series of sketches, loosley connected to the same initial ... Read review

Classic entry in the long-running film series
Review of Carry On Up The Jungle (Special Edition) by IanPhillips

Advantages: The addition of Frankie Howard in the cast
Disadvantages: Slow in parts

Following the hilarious medical caper Carry On Again Doctor (1969) (one of my own personal favourites in the series) the merry old Carry On gang retreated into another historical theme for what was the last Carry On film of the swinging sixties (which was the decade that the Carry On films were in their prime), Carry On Up The Jungle (1969). The Carry On films were always essentially British so it's actually quite surprising that they enjoyed such ...
...cinemas for nearly three years!!). Carry On Up The Jungle was really no exception and the film predicatbly runs through all of those familiar gags and double entendres that we've all seen and heard probably 1,000 times before in other Carry On films but it's the super-fine performances of the irreplacable Carry On players that ignite Carry On Up The Jungle into such a wonderful film (not to mention spot-on direction from Gerald Thomas aided by the ... Carry On Loving
Review of Carry On Loving DVD by KarenUK

Advantages: very funny, entertaining, great gags
Disadvantages: none that I can think of

Carry On Loving is the first of the Carry Ons to be made in the 1970s, which was my favourite decade of the films in many respects. This is certainly a great film, although it doesn't seem to be one that many people remember. The story revolves around Sid James & Hattie Jacques as Sidney & Sophie Bliss, the owners of a dating agency called the Wedded Bliss Agency. In a similar way to Carry On Regardless, the office scenes of the agency form the ...
...leading to various calamities. The beautiful, but tragic, Imogen Hassall shines as Jenny Grubb, transformed from shy & bespectacled to a bosom beauty, gaining the amorous attentions of admiring Terence Philpott, played by the talented Terry Scott. Jacki Piper & Richard O' Callaghan also stand out as Sally Martin & Bertie Muffet. This is very enjoyable, with some great lines - look out for the cat called Cooking Fat :-) ... Read review

Carry On Up The Jungle
Review of Carry On Up The Jungle (Wide Screen) by KarenUK

Advantages: great cast
Disadvantages: not much of a plot

Carry On Up The Jungle was made in 1969 & was the 19th Carry On film. Not surprisingly, it is set in the jungle (!), with more than a cupful of inspiration coming from the Tarzan films. In this, Terry Scott plays the Tarzan-esque Cecil the Jungle Boy & has one of the funniest scenes in the film, with Jacki Piper as June (ha ha !) trying to teach him a few facts about the two of them ! Although the plot is weak, the film still survives as the actors ...
...Charles Hawtrey, Joan Sims, Kenneth Connor & Bernard Bresslaw are all in this film too, although Bresslaw is once again cast as the 'native'& has little opportunity to shine. Not the best of the Carry On films, but stands up to repeated viewing & is still good for a laugh. ... Read review

Simply Marvellous - Some Like It Hot
Review of Some Like It Hot (Special Edition) (Wide Screen) by Ottavia

Advantages: It's brilliant
Disadvantages: None

. Some Like It Hot is an outstanding film, featuring brilliant perfomances from Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon and the supporting cast. It's laugh-out-loud funny, with an excellent plot that'll have you hooked from the off and songs that'll be stuck in your head for weeks! Made in 1959, this film instantly became a hit and with time, a classic. The story was co-written by Robert Thoeren and Michael Logan. They had used the same premise ...
...chase between the police and some heavys from the local gangsters illegal nightclub. They're carrying bootleg whiskey in coffins. When they finally lose the police they drive down an alleyway and unload the goods. Then we see the 'funeral parlour' where they are taken...and once the door's closed we're shown the nightclub that's out the back and the lavish party that's going on - gangsters, alcohol, dancing girls and the band. It's when we see the ... Read review
