A master piece of its time
Advantages: shows you what life was like after the war Disadvantages: colourful vocabulary and at times racist remarks!
If people aren't familiar with Till Death do us part then I will try and fill you in a bit!
It was part of one the significant television series during the 1960s, a purely British phenomenon. With the loud-mouthed, bigoted and racially-prejudiced Eastender Alf Garnett, this sitcom became a blue print not only in English history but also the other side of the Atlantic as well. Alf Garnett is not well educated, shockingly opinionated and had an appalling ... ...if you disrespect the queen or even say a bad word against the rich and privileged. He always voted Tory dead against labour, and really despised Hitler. he is your basic working-class man.
So with all that Alf Garnett wasn't the obvious character to be part of a TV phenomenon, but he did! I think this could be due to the fact that he reminded people of their parents.. He certainly reminds me of my grand parents. It was also the comedy factor too. ...

Don't even bother
Advantages: It spwaned a brilliant TV show Disadvantages: Everything else
Despite seeing very few M*A*S*H episodes in my life I knew from these few that it was a television series that I would love and so when I ordered it for Christmas I also ordered the M*A*S*H film which incidentally is what the television series is based upon. I must at this point say that I was thoroughly disappointed with the film and since watching the first two series' of the television series have become even more disappointed with it. Now I'm ... ...that the film was brilliant and hilarious throughout but I just can't find the appeal. Like the television series the film is based in the 4077th MASH unit and shows how they cope with the day to day burden of facing countless young men that they must put back together again and ship out to continue the fighting. Unlike the television series however the film, being much longer, didn't simply deal with one issue and in my opinion this is its downfall. ...

Ronnie Barker in silent shocker?
Advantages: I guess it's nice to see familiar faces Disadvantages: Annoying, unfunny, jangling music
Colonel Futtock is having a weekend party at his stately home, Futtocks End (I have to add here that the lack of apostrophe is not my doing...that is how it is on the DVD cover!). A variety of guests arrive, including his niece, aunt and other hangers-on, including a Japanese businessman who is not supposed to be there at all. The party begins with an accidentally boozy meal after a bottle of spirits gets knocked into the fruit salad. After that, ... ...more disrobed, and the butler has a great time copping a glance of heaving bosoms and rounded buttocks. Will everything end happily? Or is Colonel Futtock about to be responsible for a major social faux-pas?
I was quite surprised to come across this short film, which was recorded for British television in 1970 (and is therefore almost as old as me!), and was written by, and starred, the late, lamented Ronnie Barker. It is almost a silent film, in ...

Hilarious Medical Caper
Advantages: Great performances all round Disadvantages: None as such
Carry On Again Doctor(1969) is, in my own opinion, the funniest of the medical Carry On's. There is more structure to the plot than there was in Carry On Nurse (1958) or Carry On Doctor (1968) and the film being divided into three sections works well as there really feels as though there is a beginning, middle and end of a story. Most of the same actors that were used in Doctor (1967) crop up in this entry with some playing almost identical characters. ... ...also includes all the best Carry On gang Kenneth Williams, Joan Sims, Charles Hawtrey, Sid James (who is not introduced until at least half way through the film), Hattie Jaques, yet again reprising her familiar role of the Matron (though plays this more gently in this one in contrast to the more ferocious steretype displayed in Nurse and Doctor) and the bubbly Babara Windsor who quickly catches Jim Dales roving eye. Carry On Again Doctor on the whole ...
