Do you like it up the Khyber?
Review of Carry On Up The Khyber (Special Edition) by ian4552

Advantages: One of the best loved of the carry on films
Disadvantages: Some of the saucy seaside humour seems dated

...favourite films of all time. Carry on up the Khyber is one of the best loved of the "Historical" Carry ons. It is also a film that will have me laughing no matter how bad a day ive had. Beleve it or not this film also includes the only time, in a carry on film, that any filming was done outside of pinewood studios. The Khyber Pass. No they didnt go to India. That was actually shot in Snowdonia. ------------ The Plot ------------ India,1895 and ...
...Rogers, The Producer of the Carry on Films and Carry on Historian, Robert Ross. Talk about the making of the film and dispells some of the myths that have grown up about the film. Interesting, but Peters very slow speech I found somewhat annoying Stills Gallery: A selection of still that were taken whilst filming. Again not a lot i can say about this. Carry on Laughing. The Sobbing Cavalier: A half hour programme from the Carry on Laughing series. ... Read review

"OOOOHHHH MATRON"
Review of Carry On Camping (Special Edition) (Wide Screen) by mrsmopples

Advantages: Good old British Comedy at its best
Disadvantages: Hald of the characters are now dead!

WHAT ON EARTH IS A CARRY ON FILM? Well for all us 30 something's it means good old classic slapstick fun. I grew up watching these films, as they are light hearted, ridiculous and ever so slightly rude comedies. They made great Sunday afternoon viewing. The Carry on actors/actresses were nearly always the same from film to film. Apart from Carry on Camping, Rank also made Carry On Loving, Carry on up the Khyber, Carry on Matron, Carry on Emmanuel, ...
...my view was Carry on Screaming. I think off the top of my head they made about 30 in total but please forgive me if I am out by a film or two. The first film was made in 1958 and the last in 1992. They were all produced at Pinewood Studio's in Iver, Middlesex. My dad worked as a stagehand for many years and occasionally I was given a quick tour of the sets when no one was about. In those days Pinewood was the main place for all the A list celebs ... Read review

Camping it up
Review of Carry On Camping DVD by grafter123

Advantages: Good cast, some funny lines
Disadvantages: Dated and crudie in parts

CARRY ON BACKGROUND ********************************* I have already included much of this background in another review but it is in this one for those that have not read the other review. Hm that's as clear as mud but I guess you get what I mean. The Carry On Films started in 1958 with Carry On Sergeant, which was made in Black and White and set in the post war years, when conscription was still around. From then, until 1978, twenty nine Carry ...
...were several mainstays of the Carry On cast and these included Kenneth Williams, Joan Sims, Charles Hawtrey, Sid James, Kenneth Connor, Hattie Jacques and Bernard Bresslaw. Barbara Windsor often provided the sex interest but was only actually in ten of these films. The last few of these films failed to succeed and were pretty pathetic. The public's humour had changed slightly and these films did seem quite sexist. However I think that these days ... Read review

Millets never told me it would be like this......
Review of Carry On Camping (Wide Screen) by bigcat

Advantages: The majority of the Carry On team are in it
Disadvantages: Just seen by some as 'the one where Barbara Windsor's top comes off'

...- UK Gold have a Carry On marathon! To celebrate I thought I'd look at arguably the most famous Carry On of them all - Carry On Camping. Certainly if there was a film to show the Carry On 'virgin' then this one would be it. It has all the elements needed for a successful, true Carry On - a great cast, corny jokes, a British institution (wet camping holidays) and lots of scantily clad girls in bikinis. BACKGROUND Made in the depths of winter 1968, ...
...Khyber, another contender for greatest Carry On. The series was certainly on a high at this point. WHO'S IN IT The cream of the Carry On crop: Sid James, Kenneth Williams, Charles Hawtrey, Joan Sims, Barbara Windsor, Hattie Jacques,Bernard Bresslaw, Peter Butterworth, Terry Scott Semi Regulars: Julian Holloway, Dilys Laye, Betty Marsden, Derek Francis, Valerie Leon, Brian Oulton, Elizabeth Knight WHAT'S IT ABOUT? Carry On .. Up The Khyber
Review of Carry On Up The Khyber (Wide Screen) by KarenUK

Advantages: the dinner party scene is excellent - worth watching just for that !
Disadvantages: some racist undertones

Carry On ... Up The Khyber is set in the days when England ruled the world & had its Empire to look after. This is a great excuse for wonderful costumes & set pieces, culminating in the brilliant dinner party sequence - one of the best scenes ever in the history of Carry Ons -where the place is literally falling down around their ears. The cast are very good, especially the talented, but often overlooked, Peter Butterworth. Angela Douglas is the ...
...princess Jelhi. There are plenty of puns & word play going on, as usual, with Kenneth Williams playing the Khasi & Cardew Robinson's well remembered cameo as the Fakir. Again, as with 'Follow That Camel', I feel uncomfortable with the way Bernard Bresslaw portrays Bughit Din & how the non-whites are seen, but it is important to realise it was a product of the time & cannot really be judged with the political correctness of the present day. ...
