"OOOOHHHH MATRON"
Advantages: Good old British Comedy at its best Disadvantages: Hald of the characters are now dead!
WHAT ON EARTH IS A CARRY ON FILM?
Well for all us 30 something's it means good old classic slapstick fun. I grew up watching these films, as they are light hearted, ridiculous and ever so slightly rude comedies. They made great Sunday afternoon viewing.
The Carry on actors/actresses were nearly always the same from film to film. Apart from Carry on Camping, Rank also made Carry On Loving, Carry on up the Khyber, Carry on Matron, Carry on Emmanuel, ... ...my view was Carry on Screaming. I think off the top of my head they made about 30 in total but please forgive me if I am out by a film or two.
The first film was made in 1958 and the last in 1992. They were all produced at Pinewood Studio's in Iver, Middlesex. My dad worked as a stagehand for many years and occasionally I was given a quick tour of the sets when no one was about. In those days Pinewood was the main place for all the A list celebs ...

Lots of laughs with this classic comedy.
Advantages: Well packaged / presented. Very funny performances. Disadvantages: Not brilliant picture quality due to age condition of original tapes.
...and in later episodes of Nearest and Dearest, Nellie can be heard to say of Walter "He knows you know". Hylda Baker was always good at recycling her sayings and catchphrases to suit whatever situation she was in at the time. THE DVD
This DVD produced by Network DVD in association with Granada Ventures, contains the entire first series of Nearest and Dearest (six episodes). They are all in black and white and quality is watchable but variable due ... ...of all the series' of Nearest and Dearest. Reputedly, they never got on in real life either. Upon his reunion with Eli, Joshua, initially not recognising Eli, is delighted to see his son back home. This is a particularly funny scene as at one point all of the cast are trying not to laugh. After Joshua passes away (removing his own false teeth first!), Nellie and Eli discuss what they will do with themselves and the pickling business. Eli hopes to ...

"I wanna be a producer..."
Advantages: Strong vocals and musical leads Disadvantages: Missing a certain sparkle
The Producers is one of those films that I've wanted to see for a long time. I can't to be honest think why this is the case but it is and so when I noticed it whilst out shopping the other day I simply had to buy it. Now I knew upon purchasing the film that I was going to be a musical style film with a good helping of humour and to be fair that is what I received. I must say however, and this is reflected in my rating of the film, that I was expecting ... ...just wasn't there. The Producers tells the story of Leo Bloom an accountant and a down on his luck producer Max Bialystock who despite Leo's initial reluctance plot a somewhat bent get rich scheme. This scheme however will only succeed if the play that they produce is a complete flop. The money they have then raised to invest in the play will be theirs and they'll be raking it in.
With this in mind the pair go on a hunt to find the worst play ever ...

"I can't wear biege for a bank robbery!"
Advantages: Often ver funny Disadvantages: A bit raw
Take the Money and Run is a 1969 comedy starring and directed by Woody Allen. Allen had substantial creative control over a picture for the first time and made his debut as a director. For this reason Take the Money and Run is really the first 'proper' undiluted Woody Allen film.
Filmed in a mockumentary style, Take the Money and Run chronicles hopeless bank-robber, and general failure, Virgil Starkwell (played by Allen) and uses fake cinéma vérité ... ...and, despite the small budget, Take the Money and Run has a grainy and authentic look. The film is very raw and somewhat homemade and lacks the polish that Allen would quickly attain as a director.
We see Virgil drifting into a life of crime at a young age and follow him through marriage, attempts to go straight, prison, and working on a chain-gang! Allen's character is the usual early Allen comedy persona; a deadpan wise-cracking failure and misfit. ...

How did he get it so right ?
Advantages: Mel Brook on top form Disadvantages: Availability
...to write anything more because the other two guys have wonderful taste and are more than capable of telling you just how good this film is.
But according to IMBD there’s going to be another film in 2005 called The Producers starring some of today’s rising young stars. This is sacrilege. Can you imagine anyone better than Gene Wilder? Can you imagine a young hunky muscled Adonis playing opposite Richard Prior? They’re playing with history.
But why ... ...remake it? Just re-release the original on DVD with deleted scenes, a nice feature documentary of the making and interview with Mel Brooks and sell it at an inflated cost as a special edition and you can scrape a few extra dollars out of this wonderful flick. So anyway I’ve had my rant and I want you to see this film. So I will conform to the normal confines of a review and try not to bully you all the way to the Video shop.
Perfect performances ...
